Can a damaged carrier keep attacking in round 2 of the sea battle in an amphibious assault?

BM4 refers to the “Balanced Mod [4th edition]”. It’s broadly similar to the original Global 1940 with some minor modifications and additions to make it more balanced.

If you’re trying to use one of these for Pacific 1940 2nd edition (no modifications), then you’ll have to do a few things to make it work. You’ll have to ignore the European nations and all the new additions. Keep in mind that the US has significantly fewer national objectives in the Pacific-only map as opposed to the European map (tip: If a national objective mentions a territory not on the board, it’s a good indicator that it’s not in the Pacific-only version). You’ll need to still consult the rules to account for all the changes though.

I do not like the idea of having Japan need all those territories for an NO.  There are so many avenues of attack, it seems hard to imagine Japan getting the NO for more than a round and if they did, then they would be in a position that they would not need it.

I feel it may be a better solution if Japan were to have an NO for Hong Kong (Kwangtung), Manilla (Philippines) and Kiangsu (Beijing).  The problem is, those are all victory cities, so wouldn’t Japan already be going for those?

Maybe Alaska would be better, since Japan actually did invade Alaska (Aluetian Islands) historically.

The warship and transport need only end their movement in the same sea zone.  They don’t have to move together.

If two US carriers were attacked by a Japanese submarine, and there were no US destroyers present, the fighters on the carrier that got damaged would not be lost in the air.  They would be stuck on the deck of the carrier until the carrier could get to a friendly naval base for repairs. 
Since planes can not hit submarines without a friendly destroyer present, if a submarine attacks a carrier there is no reason for the planes to take off from the carrier.  They would simply have to withstand the attack aboard the carrier like cargo on transports in hopes that the carrier’s own anti-sub defenses can get the sub or the sub breaks off the attack.
Therefore, you would not lose your planes if the carrier only took one hit. 
However, say your carrier is next to a friendly island or coast and gets attacked by a pack of subs that gets two hits on that carrier.  Then you would lose your planes even though they are just 1 space away because they never took off from the carrier because planes can’t hit submarines.  That part sucks.

All of that is wrong. The planes are always in the air and thus if the CV is damaged, they have to land within 1 space or die.

Calvin is correct.  The only times planes are considered in Cargo on a CV is when they are your allies planes, at which point they are not in the air until that players turn.

To clarify that, allied planes are only cargo if the carrier is attacking. If the carrier is defending, allied planes can still try to land within one space.

My mistake guys.  I just went back and reread the rules regarding carriers and defending aircraft and see now that ANY attack on the carrier has the planes defending in the air, even if the attack is by subs.  I guess I missed that part before.  Thanks for the correction.

I played my fith game of global today, I controlled the axis.  It took about 15 hours and we decided on a draw.  Amercia invested heavily in the Pacific this time and did a major arms build at honolulu.  I was caught off guard by this because in the other games we played America went for either Norway or Italy.  I ended up calling my navy and air force back to sea zone 6 to defend Japan.  I was still able to build a factory and capture India but Australia and China became huge thorns.  Since America kept adding about 60 points to there base in Honolulu each turn I was pinned and could not capture Sydney.  So Australia started building subs each turn and before long they were convoy attacking me for 18 points a turn.  China ran away and consolidated in point in China where they met up with a Russian AA gun. At that point 20 China men would march forward each turn and recapture land.

Italy defeated Britan in Egypt this time but I could not hold it after the american points spent in the alantic theather showed up.  Germany captured Leningrad but could not really get any further than that.

Finally around turn ten the I attacked the Americans in the Pacfic with my Japan force but the result was mutal destruction for both fleets.  By this point Russia had a huge defenseive force and so did germany.  We were too tired to keep going then and called it a draw.  Any feeback or thoughts would be appreciated.  It was all and all a fun game.
