Rules help needed…

Well, if your new, I would honestly say stick with the allies. Your most pressing concern will be Russia. Really, all you need to do is play the defensive game, which I think would be easier for a new player. If you’re the axis, you have to make more difficult decisions and will more likely to make beginners mistakes. If you really want to be axis, then my overlaying suggestion is to destroy Russia ASAP. Here’s a good hint…build a factory on mainland China your first turn as Japan. You can then easily move into Russia with Japanese tanks. Germany should build infantry and artillery the first round, and then tanks every round after. Make sure to put your many planes to good use.

If your allies, buy plenty of Infantry and artillery for Russia, and make sure you defend Moscow and Caucasus. Use your fighters with caution, as they will be very difficult to replace. England should be able to hold out on it’s own, so just try and annoy the Germans by building transports, fighters, and bombers to threaten Germany’s homeland (Especially Norway). America should get to Germany ASAP to force the Germans on a defensive. If you still have transports for Eastern US, invade Africa right off the bat.

Interesting, I hadn’t considered the idea of bringing the rockets with.

I was thinking that 5 infantry in Russia would almost FORCE your opponent to attack with 10 ground units at least and, if lucky, might actually survive a round.

But, hmm, if you had retreated that Caucasian AA Gun and you had two now, that’s two rockets at Japan, since he more then likely has at least one IC on the mainland by that point in the game……  Or two at Germany if you run that way.

Uhm, all the National Advantages out of the box rules? (As in no special modifications like the Larry Harris Tournament Rules or house rules) would be INCREDIBLY over powering for the allies.

You might want to get the LHTR (Larry Harris) from DAAK.de or Flames of Europe, etc and use those NAs.  Or another good option is to roll a die twice for each nation, the number that comes up is the NA you get (re-roll if you roll the same thing twice in a row) and then let the Axis pick 2 NAs each (Out of the Box versions, 1 if Larry Harris) to kinda even the game out.

A good bid to counter that is 12-15 IPCs in units for the Axis (either LHTR or Out Of Box.)

Let us know how it goes.  I find the NAs add a lot of dynamic flavor tot he game.

no its really not amazingly bad.  and that is just because they don’t have a true system in place for transporting and the axis has a lot of troops still on the board.  it is really going to come down a lot to dice rolls and some solid execution

You do have to sign up for membership, but that is free and easy.  Covers most aspects of a move (buy, combat moves, and combat), has a dispute resolution method, and even allows you to keep track of how you stand against other players based on game outcome.

It also has 3 different rule sets built into it for combat resolution:  Avalon Hill printed manual, LHTR, and LHTR 1.1 (does not yet have 1.2 loaded as an option).
