This is the pattern in all the games I have played recently - The Axis get incredible rolls turn 1. I have had the fortunate side of this twice now, and the loosing side of this twice now. 4 out of 4 games in the last 3 years, and France fell with germany sustaining 1-3 inf, yunan&hunan falling with 0-1 japanese, except in this case, but this is still better than average. I went in thinking the loss of a fig was to be expected in trade for the russian air…

You had an incredible first round with G and J, but I have seen crazier results. Some Turn 1 were so hardcore (in either direction), that the game was basically decided already.
After more than 300 games, I just recently incorporated the Russian DOW against Japan Turn 1 and stacking Yunnan, I think this might be my 4th game with that tactic. I deterred my opponent from attacking Yunnan in 1 case, unfortunately all 3 of the others went below-average, not even average.
