OK, normally no one rolls their defense dice but it doesn’t bother me.
Triple A is wrong to require casualty choices right now, so I reserve the right to change choice after the ships roll, because that is when the rules require it.

Take both hits to carrier but depending on the other 2 dice I can completely “change” my casualty choice. So go ahead and roll the next

My casualty choice does end up being the carrier, then your ships got the expected 1 hit, and I took off the destroyer.
Sub hit and sunk the battleship, then I scored 1 hit with the rest, and you scored 2/2.
I can’t take the sub off, so I lose cruiser tac.
Sub sinks transport, I score 1 hit, and your plane hits me back yet again. I lose bomber, so UK wins with the sub and a fighter.
We should both be satisfied (although not happy) one of the most decisive battles in G40 went close to average.
Now what will happen with the risky 111 battle?

Tough combination of no buy G1 and 10 bid. Have to keep a plane or two at London and don’t have a sub in 91. That 77% 97 could have killed and so could 96 or Ethiopia, where I took the 4.
I needed to get rid of that battleship so had a reason for 2 planes to stay home anyway, but had little choice but to go 95% on 96 and 77% on 97 and I got away with it. This time.
I’m glad you didn’t go for 91 on G1 (I’m not saying you’re wrong) because without that cruiser I really couldn’t hit 97, I would have gone 99.9% at 96 instead. But I always hit 97, I don’t know how to defend Egypt if I don’t (without Indian planes), and letting 96 go is also not a good option.
I don’t know. I’ve lost a couple of games badly because of losing Egypt early. I gotta learn it’s about as important as Russia or India. Allies need to hold all 3 to be comfortable

I couldn’t figure out from the balanced mod rules whether “land unit” includes AAA for South France Vichy rules. Didn’t matter because I want the infantry and AA to stay on Malta in this situation.
They specify land unit does not include AAA for China purposes, but not elsewhere in their rules. The rulebook says land units definitely include AAA. I can’t remember if BM counts AAA for NO’s on North Africa, Sardinia etc
