I would usually not liberate Paris until Northern Italy and Western Germany were both in Allied hands. OR, Italy was taken out and Germany is in such a poor position that they couldn’t afford to mount an attack against Paris. In that case, the US/UK would have to have a lot of units in Paris along with the free 12 IPCs of French units. So much so that Germany just can’t muster enough attacking units to make it worth their while.
I remember one game where we had a situation like this and our German player got all crazy like “Oh, I got to get Paris back!”. Germany did get Paris back and gained something like 15 IPCs (some French territories were still in Axis hands), but they lost so many units in the process it ended up being a negative for them. Plus, their defenses were severely weakened both in W Germany and Germany itself. Russia had a fun time on the Eastern Front.
So, basically I wouldn’t liberate Paris unless the Allies had an overwhelming force to either keep it or make it stupid for Germany to retake it.
Another reason is the Normandy and S France factories. I like for the US in particular, but also the UK to have factories on mainland Europe. I don’t want to give them up until I have and can keep the factories in Italy and possibly W Germany. Then you can give up the French factories.
G1 Taking all of France
-
This is only for low luck.
Normandy Bordeaux is 100%, although by my own calculations realistically 99%.
Paris is 99%.
Southern France is 100%.
The units used are every ground unit in range of France, along with a fighter from Slovakia Hungary, the tactical bomber from Poland, and the tactical bomber from Berlin.
Keep in mind using the tactical bomber from Berlin may weaken an attack against sea zone 110 should you decide to attack there.

@SuperbattleshipYamato said in G1 Taking all of France:
In my experience three slots is nowhere enough for Germany to build up a fleet and transports in the Mediterranean to make a difference while not getting destroyed by the British.
And Germany’s IPCs are very busy breaking the Soviets.
Leave Southern France to Italy to boost their income. In case Northern Italy is somehow captured, it’s a very useful backup complex. Germany has enough backup industrial complexes in the rest of France in case of Allied bombings anyway.
While it might not make a difference when the US enters the field it can make a difference before that. Build a carrier + DD + transport round 2 and have the remnants of the italian fleet merge there and italy will be safe and you can actually use it to attack stuff with.
What will the UK do? Attack with 1 bomber against a full carrier?
You can lead with Italy and have gemany just reinforce with the carrier. It gives italy a bit more flexibility in the med for a few turns at least. Could make a difference in getting egypt and by extention the rest of afrika. -
I’ll try that out.
-
@shadowhawk I don’t see this working but try it if you wish
-
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato I don’t particularly enjoy G40 OOB anymore
-
Oh well.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato I think if you try to take all of France G1,you will be too weak somewhere. The best 2 reasons, IMO, to take S.Fra G1 is getting the factory and providing a landing spot for Italian air I1.I almost never get to collect the 3ipcs G1 because I get convoyed by the french navy.
As for Normandy,I sometimes like to leave it french so that USA or UK can’t use the factory later. However,I want to kill the french land units there so they can’t attack holland F1 with help from the fighter in UK.
So a real brave G1 would look:
to normandy 2jnf 1 fig. { land in rome} expect to retreat
to S.france 1 tank 1 mech 1 fig fron slovia
to france all land that can reach + TB from poland -
I’ve found taking all of France on the first turn isn’t too risky when playing low luck.
I generally try to use as little aircraft as possible against France (just Slovakia Hungary fighter for Southern France) since they’re usually needed to take down the Allied fleets.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato nobody plays low luck so don’t use that as any standard of play please
-
Alright then.
-
@TheVeteran
There are plenty of players that play LowLuck of have some version where they limit luck.Even without low luck taking all of france isnt that big a stretch, 70-80% combats you should still win you might take a few more losses.
-
@shadowhawk but then you would need to utilize more aircraft which you couldn’t use against the British navy and you would be more likely to lose more higher valuable units (mechs suck to lose more than infantry for example)
