OK, I see it now, it’s because Russia declared war on Japan, not the other way around. Didn’t realize that subtlety made a difference in BM.
I guess there is a greater disincentive for Japan to declare on Russia with that objective in play!

Did not scramble in SZ97 for you, as I still had about 88% odds, and didn’t think you’d want to lose your 2 fighters and tac, but let me know if you do wish to scramble and we can re-do that one.

I realized I may have stiffed you on OOL by losing the Destroyer first, rather than the Cruiser (though it was pretty phenomenal I only got 1 hit in the first round). My sub had a first strike which hit in round 2, and you didn’t get to return fire. Probably should have lost the Cruiser in round 1, and then you would have had return fire in round 2. Why don’t you go ahead and do a 1D6 roll (maybe a test roll?), and if you get a 1 or 2, delete one of my surviving British Destroyers in SZ97.
Or if you prefer to scramble from S. Italy, I can re-do the entire battle, I saved it just before UK’s turn, so have that game file I can go back to.
