I remember when A&A Minis come in 2005, some players had the main movements on the Revised 2004 ed map, but resolved the battles with the Minis. You are basically suggesting the same, but switch the Minis with a First Shooter Game online. Could be fun.
Is there a world champion for this game?
-
If people do it for chess, surely at least some people would do it for Axis and Allies.
And I feel like online play would be sufficient. Just need to schedule and arrange all the players.
-
True. However, to some, the feel and movement of the real game is proffered by some.

Its also a question of who would like to watch these games.
If nobody is watching then there will be no world championship because nobody would sponsor it.
Chess hardly gets any press coverage and dont even think they got regular world championships. And lets be honest, chess is a pretty well known game where A&A brand is pretty obscure. Its like what arthouse movies are to boardgames.
Good quality but small audience. -
I agree. Nothing we can do, I guess.

@SuperbattleshipYamato sad but true. If renegade sponsored an official tournament, however, we could host a set of prelims at game conventions around the world, leading to continental tournaments, leading up to a championship game. This is different to chess, however, where they have multiple tournaments.

The problem is who is we? Im pretty sure there are many players that dont even know of this site or use it.
I didnt go looking but im sure there will be other websites with either a part of their site/forum or just completely based on 1 or multiple A&A games.
You also have the playerbase on steam that might only look there. -

Sorry to be late to the party.
In 2002 the four major online A&A clubs (DAAK, AAMC, IAAPA, and Spring 42) held an online 2nd edition (classic) World Championship. Each club sent their 4 best players. The 16 total players were divided into 4 round robin style pools. The winners of each pool then played a 3 game round robin final for the championship. A player named BloodWasher from AAMC won the title. As for as I know it has never been repeated, so I guess he is still the reigning classic A&A World Champion?
-
Huh, I remember Bloodwasher from AAMC. Definitely one of the best Classic players out there.
-
Thank you for providing this information.

I found this old screenshot I took when I left AAMC. It reminded me that Massa was the master at 2nd edition (Classic); I think I only beat him once in a finals and lost 2-3 times. And Danimar was darn good too. I am surprised Bloodwasher was not in the top 4.

@leemorrison You were the top AAR player at the time.
-
@AndrewAAGamer Massa still plays at IAAPA, if you are interested at taking another crack at him. He is still one of the best I have ever played. Leemorrison is there too.
