Transports Adjacent to Hostile Sea Zones

The UK carrier would not be involved in the battle in any way, regardless of what the US attacked with.

Played a game with some friends over the weekend, and the unimaginable happened.  I was playing as the UK and just wasn’t paying attention… left Britain open, and the German player saw the opportunity and invaded me with a tank, a dude, and his air force.

I thought for sure the game was over, especially because I’d been holding a large wad of cash, but the german player didn’t push his advantage.  I retreated some troops from norway and retook the UK; meanwhile a large stack of german tanks headed for moscow… and then the german player got cautious and didn’t push his advantage.

The US player went for some tech upgrades, lucked out and got heavy bombers and long-range aircraft.  The Japanese player was new, and while his strategy wasn’t bad, he just didn’t push into asia fast enough.  US bombers sent his transports to the bottom of the sea, and his IC in India wasn’t enough to win.

About 12 rounds into the game, the axis players resigned.

Unbelievable.

If I had been playing germany and been given that opportunity, I would have won the game in 3 rounds, almost guaranteed.  I’m still shaking my head at my luck.

If a transport LOADS during Combat movement, it must OFFLOAD in Combat Movement also (i.e. amphib assault).

Submarines do not fight against air units.

Everything else - transports, subs, carriers, destroyers, battleships - do.  Of course, transports have no “attack” value, but transports can defend.

A battleship that is NEXT to a sea zone or land zone in which fighters are involved takes NO PART in that combat.  (unless for battleship bombardment, which you already know about).  So if you have a sub in one sea zone and fifty battleships in the next sea zone over, the lone enemy fighter that attacks your sub is perfectly safe.

Sealion is not the way to go.

1. Odds not in your favor: A. survives: 22%  D. survives: 73%
2. If you fail, you have just lost the game.
3. If you succeed, you will have lost more units than the money you will get from UK, while letting Russia get ahead in the builds.
4. You will lose Gbr against the UK or US counterattacks. If you retake it, you will lose it again.

According to odds and some of my calculations, this strategy will win you the game less than 20% of the time.
