Amazing!
Advice to Renegade! What is on your top 10 for adjustments to G40 3rd edition?
-
@crockett36 Makes sense.
-
@crockett36 I would need help with triplea unless if you just want to sent saved games back and forth.
-
I suggest that you move your posts concerning your TripleA game to another thread, since this thread is for crockett’s Advice to Renegade.
-
@The-Captain good idea
-
Start in 1939 or get rid of France. And draw the map alot more accurate. Go with D12 system and add about 4 new units.
-
@Imperious-Leader 39 start would be great for the “this version is newer and better” story. Could add a new set of sculpts/colors or two- “Allied Minor Powers” to occupy Poland & Greece in Europe / Dutch holdings in the Pacific, and perhaps also (although less needed) some “Axis Minor Powers” to occupy Finland & the Balkans in Europe / Thailand in the Pacific.
RE: Dice, they seem more likely to go D10 given North Africa. Either is fine.
What about spinning off the Soviet Union into a third side/Power to simplify Mongolia rules and give the Chinese KMT (as well as Turkey, Persia, Eastern Europe, and the Allies in general) some ornery Communists to worry about?
-
Are you all advocating for a different game, not an adjustment to g40?
-
@crockett36 …yeah, I think we’re off-topic.
-
@vodot or your advice to renegade is to come out with a 39 version!
-
Multiple Scenarios would be nice the way Anniversary does it. Would have to use control markers.
Some new units are always fun :) Make them all optional. Give people multiple ways to play the game. Maybe that’s not a good business model though :)
But yea a standalone 39 would be pretty sweet with a new map :)

A 1941 start. No politics. No national objectives. Remove France. Have Vichy as Italian units. Remove ANZAC. Have all the UK as 1 economy. Have China as a full power. A few map adjustments. Have the starting forces more historically accurate. Have a reason to take tiny islands without national objectives.
-
@Faramir Nah that just ruins the game.
-
@Faramir I agree with the islands. Like having Malta being more importent.
-
@Faramir I would play that game.
-
My suggestion would be to contact Renegade (and maybe also Mr. Larry Harris) at first - and ask if they are interested at all in starting up this massive project.
I imagine, that most G40 players - if not the entire Axis & Allies Community - would also have to support this effort.
I suggest that the following should also be considered:
- Who would purchase this game ?
- What would the cost be ?
- What are the future plans for this game when the game is completed and ready for sale (any expansions in the future etc.?)
- How many games must be sold before it is a succes?
Is the new Axis & Allies North Africa a succes ?
Since 2023 we have discussed the developement of a similar project in the Danish Axis & Allies Association, based on the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion.
We concluded that the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion (G40 HRE) was more than sufficient enough to entertain G40 players for at least the next decade.
So we decided to keep developing the G40 HRE by gradually adding more complexity and multiple options over the coming years.We have informed Renegade about this - and announced that Renegade can use any units & rules from the G40 HRE for whatever they want (for free, naturally).
The Danish Axis & Allies Association is of course available for further information and help.

Too many house rule sets are just a bunch of additional rules and units on top of the OOB rules. That can spice up a game for people who are tired of the original, but it isn’t the recipe for a good new game. Global is almost too big for a 1 box game. I would prefer a second edition of Anniversary to be the definitive A&A.
