Is the "J1 attack" in Global 1940 overpowered?

@Narvik they made us all sign non-disclosure agreements which I think is silly but it was a pre-requisite to help out. I play tested. I didn’t help with design so as for how they compute the game economy or any use of computers or AI is unknown to me. Some playtesters brought their own methods of balancing or rating these things and provided input but that was largely left to Renegade.

I wish there had been more time to playtest. I will say that about Africa and to a lesser extent, Stalingrad.

As for all the other versions and imbalance in general: I will say that it appears that playtesting and balance took a back seat to production deadlines. It appears that the thousands of human playtesting games that you and I would agree need to be done, were likely not done.

I hear D-Day is being re-released here soon. I have high hopes that that will be fully balanced. We’ll see.

@DoManMacgee I agree so far. I don’t play Tournaments so at some point we will not agree. But basically all versions of A&A should be easy to learn. A&A is not a hex and counter game. I miss the Classic Rulebook, it was 4 pages if I remember correct.

Lets take the Road Movement rule. In North Africa anything with wheels can move 5 spaces on a road. I love it. But in Stalingrad only Tanks and Mech can move 2 spaces and 2 additional spaces if they start at a road, but Assault guns and Rocket Launchers can not move 2 additional spaces. Now that don’t make sense since the Panzer III and the Stug III had the same range and the same speed limit. And also the ZIS 42 halftrack was the excact same as the ZIS 42 Rocket Launcer. I guess its because of game balance. But for playability all motorized vehicles should be able to Road Movement. So this rule beats me for sure.

I also noticed there are 6 spaces between Grain elevator and Tractor Factory. So it takes a Tank 3 Rounds to move between those points. A Round is 2 weeks. So it takes 6 weeks to drive 15 miles, or 25 km. I am awere it was a lot of rubble and debris in the streets of Stalingrad, but I walk 15 miles, or 25 km, on my feet in 'bout 3 hours. OK, lets give this to game balance and playability, it’s just a game after all. But it does bother me.

That’s a great way of putting it.

I’m with Gargantua.
Buy mostly Infantry, with an Artillery here and there.
Take Iraq as soon as possible with a goal of getting a tank down to Ethiopia/Somalia
Take Finland/Norway if the opportunity presents itself; it is worth 11 IPC’s to you and takes away 10 ipcs/turn from the Germans.  By no means is this as must do as Iraq, but from time to time it is good.

Germany will either go heavy north or south (if he splits up than he is likely inexperienced and you should crush each army seperately).  Retreat from his heavy push and counter as much as possible in the other.

i.e. If Germany goes heavy towards Leningrad, abandon Leningrad the turn before you likely lose it, and slowly move your forces east towards Moscow- don’t give the germans an easy way to kill your russian stack!  In the South, hold your ground (and hold onto Ukraine) as best you can without committing more than a couple Inf there/turn (along with your aircraft).

Starting to think the Eastern Front troops are best kept in the East Front- with perhapd 6-8 staying in Siberia and the rest going around mongolia to China.  They rarely get to Moscow in time to help anyway, might as well try to protect your eastern lands.
