If you are looking to match the default color for the Japanese, try Vallejo Liquid Acrylic 804 Transparent Orange and Model color 140 Flat Brown mixed 30 to 1 sprayed on an undercoat of 131 Orange Brown. It’s a dead match.

Custom Ship Deck Decal Sets

Hello everybody. I wanted to announce that AxisandAlliesBoardGaming.com has released new decal sets specifically made for the Axis & Allies naval game pieces from the following game versions: Europe 1940, Pacific 1940, Spring 1942 & 1941 Anniversary Edition.

This is the DIY option for those who want the enjoyment and challenge of painting their own game pieces. Now you can finish them off with precision-cut waterslide decals to give your creations a professional look. Each individual ship deck decal has been pre-cut to ensure a perfect fit every time.

It is very difficult to get a clean edge on your ship decks using a paint brush by hand. One side of the ship might have straight lines but the other side might be noticeably wavy or you painted onto the superstructure by accident. You can pay others to painstakingly paint your ships but that can be very expensive for an entire fleet or game set. With these decals, there are no more worries about the final look and feel of your ships. Now it is easy to produce game pieces like a pro, and you can paint as many pieces as you want and every one will look great.

These are sold in fleet sets that include deck decals for all the naval game pieces for the selected country and game version. Some examples:

@barnee thanks, I was inspired after watching Midway to do them like that, and to differentiate them from fighters for my less observant friends. I liked it so much I did my Stukas and Japanese tacs the same way as well.

I’ve gotten several private messages and some responses in this thread… so just as a head’s up and a community service…

Because of the private messages, I have ALREADY made a deal to unload my custom units, and they are, in-fact, already mailed off.

I know its kinda pointless now, but if you’re still that curious as to what I did have, here’s the complete list of the custom HBG units I had purchased in the last few weeks to beef up my bins… since I later made a decision to pull them and not use them, I did eventually re-order equivalent numbers of default/original OOB A&A units from HBG to beef up my numbers (like if I didn’t like the two HBG Japanese Fuso battleships, I reordered two OOB Kongo or Yamato battleships to replace them… so-on and so-on.  Anyways, here’s the (now kinda pointless) list:

(BTW: you may notice that for the most part, planes are missing from this list… I found most custom HBG aircraft to be good enough and scaled well enough to survive my “off-scale axe”.  So there are many HBG planes like P-47s and F4F/Hellcats that survived the cut and made it into my permanent bins)

Nice work - Dare I ask how many hours you put into it? For interest’s sake.

I think that the map most definitely achieves your criteria’s.    I am not such a fan of the colors but they fit with what you want, and are simply a knee-jerk omg reaction that will dissipate.  I like the de-cluttering of it thou, and it is definitely easy to see who starts where this way.

When you get a final version up I’d be tempted to print it out as a replacement board myself specially if you put up the PSD and allow us to make our own modifications if needed… Love modifying my boards!
