So, there’s a bit more to it than that. There’s probably a lot of parts of the game that are related, but I’ll try and keep confined.

So in A&A, naval bases just increase movement. This has more than that.

There’s 3 types of naval bases. 1) Port, 2) Dockyard, 3) Shipyard.

Port.

Ports grant an extra movement for ships just like A&A. But they also are used as supply paths for Lend Lease. In GW36 you can lend lease to other nations, but they have to go through ports/undamaged railways, etc. So port can be very important for shipping lend lease supplies/units. You can send $3 worth of money or units through a minor port, and $5 worth through a major port. You can place these anywhere that has an ocean border. Also, it’s only a major port that grants the movement bonus, not a minor.

Dockyards

Dockyards can do the same things as ports, except while a minor dockyard can only support $3 worth of lend lease, a major dockyard can support unlimited amounts of lead-lease material. Dockyards can also be used to repair capital ships. Same as above, only major dockyards give movement bonuses.

Shipyards

Shipyards can do all the same things as ports and dockyards. The difference here is that they can also produce ships, 1 non-capital ship per turn for a minor dockyard, and 5 ships of any type for a major dockyard. Major dockyards can only be build in your home country too, you can’t build them in overseas and/or conquered territories, etc. Same as above, only major shipyards give movement bonuses.

@meyott Hey there! I haven’t been able to bust the game out in a while, so I’m maybe a bit rusty here, but I believe these should answer your questions.

When Greek Alignment happens would depend on at what point in the game Turkey is Aligned too. If the Axis win Influence over Greece before they’re at war with anyone, then Turkey would not be Aligned with the Axis just yet, and so Greece would not be able to become Aligned with the Allies right away. If the Axis was at war with the Allies, then Greece would become Allied Aligned immediately.

There’s seemingly a bit of contradiction between the Turkey At War Expansion rules, and the Turkey Reference sheet though.

The Reference Sheet states that “If Turkey becomes Axis Aligned (i.e. its at war with the Same Major Power as Germany Japan or Italy), Greece will immediately become Allied Aligned”.

The Expansion rules at 1.5© and 1.6 state:

“1.5© Declaration of War: Even if Turkey becomes Aligned to a Major Power an independent run Turkey is not forced to declare war and can remain neutral until it wishes to. Other nations can declare war on Turkey as per Global War Rules”;

“1.6 Greece: If Turkey becomes Axis Aligned, Greece will immediately become Allied Aligned”.

So to me, the Reference sheet is saying that Greece becomes Aligned with the Allies when Turkey is at war with the same Major power as the Axis, but the Expansion rules at 1.6 just say Greece becomes Allied Aligned the moment Turkey becomes Axis Aligned, seemingly regardless of Turkey’s belligerent status.

I know that’s not me really answering the question, haha. We’ve played based on what the Expansion Rules say though and not the Reference sheet, meaning that once Turkey becomes Axis Aligned, Greece will become Allied Aligned, regardless of Turkish war status.

Good point on Home Country here. I guess I’d refer to the rulebook for “Home Country”:

“Each nation has a group of land zones that comprise their Home Country as defined on the National Reference Sheet. For a Minor Power the Home Country includes the primary nation but not its colonies, islands or conquered land zones”.

Im trying to create a basic framework for the rise of the Axis powers very similar to the one sported by HBGs Global 1936. It is my hope this script will get the ball rolling so to speak. If anyone has any suggestions to improve or expand such a script, please feel free to share.

The Diplomatic script

ROUND 1

Germany annexes Austria
UK and France incomes increase by 1 IPP each

Italy annexes Albania

ROUND 2

Germany annexes Czechoslavakia
UK and France incomes increase by 1 IPP each

Italy may invade Abyasinia
UK income increases by 1 IPP if Italy occupies Abyasinia

Japan may invade China
FEC and ANZAC incomes increase by 1 IPP for every Chinese territory Japan occupies until at war with Japan

USA may invade Mexico
CSA income increases by 1 IPP for every Mexican territory the USA occupies until at war with the USA

ROUND 3

USA may occupy Cuba
UK and CSA incomes increase by 1 IPP each

ROUNDS 4-6

The status quo continues until global war

ROUND 7

WW2 begins, Germany invades Poland and the Entente minus the CSA, declare war on Germany exclusively

The Molotov-Ribontrop pact is signed, Eastern Europe is divided between Germany and the USSR and the USSR agrees to lend-lease Germany 3 oil and 3 iron ore per turn until they are at war

If Germany captures Paris, Finland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Venazeula, and Argentina become pro-Axis

Italy and Turkey may join the Axis at their descretion from now on

ROUND 8

The USA and Japan may sign the Pacific Mutual Security Pact, stipulating the USA will cede the Phillipines, Guam, Wake and Midway island to Japan and the USA promises to lend-lease Japan 3 oil and 3 iron ore per turn until either power is defeated, the game ends, or if “Japan leaves the Axis”* at a later date. Japan and the USA then must declare war on the Entente jointly. The CSA will then join the Entente and declare war on the USA.

*Japan may leave the Axis and act as a free-agent after round 12, this allows to Japan to attack any power and make peace on their own without the consent of their allies.

If you have any more questions on the Admiral version of SCW, just ask. I designed it and would eventually like to adjust it to version 3.1 if there are more things not clear.

@GeneralHandGrenade Unsurprising that you have the intel GHG! And ultimately unsurprising this is in the works. They’ve done such a great job with diverse expansions, this was bound to be an area for one. Very intrigued it’s the same designer as Latin America, as I think that Expansion (and China at War) was one of the best thought out ones they’ve done yet! Will be very interested in seeing this in the future, I think it could hold a lot!

I completely agree, I think the Med/North Africa could be a great standalone game. I posted on the forums here years ago how cool it would be to see an A&A game like that done, though really any similar game like that would be great. There’s so much that can be done.

The biggest criticisms I’ve really heard on the topic was that you couldn’t really do a true “final victory”, since any map would obviously not actually include a Berlin as a final destination to take, and that this game wouldn’t feel like you “won the war”. Well, I guess that’s true, but who cares! One needs to look at is as a Theater-level game. You’re objective is victory in the Theater. That might mean taking Rome and Tunis for the Allies, or taking Cairo as the Axis, or it could just mean surviving a certain amount of time.

The other part of this would be how to incorporate the US. Do you start a game on the eve of Operation Torch? Or have a game similar to Global 1940, where the US joins starting a certain turn? I personally would advocate for the later. I’d love to play out a game where I do what I can with British and Commonwealth forces early on, and then see the tide turn with a US entry. I’ve seen complaints of how people think it would be dumb to just have US forces bought/appear from the edge of a map (since the US would presumably not be represented here). Again, I say you’ve got to be able to have fun with a game!
