Actually, just noticed that the carriers defend @1, so would actually go max d for the first round and sink the italian carrier instead.
Think it’s easiest to just restart the battle by reloading the CM before the defending roll and adjusting for casualties, then disregarding the attack dice on the redo.
Another option is to roll the existing battle and look at the dice, specifically the two @1’s.
a) If both are 1’s there are two hits and nothing needs to be changed.
b) If one hits and the other missed with a result 2< nothing needs to be changed either.
c) If there are two 2’s, there will be one hit.
d) If there are no 1’s, but one 2, it needs to be rolled which of the ships was the 2. That would be 1d2 and a hit on 1 and miss on 2.
e) In the same way if 1 and a 2 are rolled, then it could be either 1 or 2 hits.
