I am going to call this game. I decided a couple of months ago that I am done with A&A for awhile. Too much time and brainpower expended. This is the last game I have active.
I can see that this will take another 10-15 rounds to finish. Every time someone makes a mistake, the game is backtracked to give another chance, which only extends the game. We have already been doing this for 4+ months, and I am unwilling to go another couple of months to see how it turns out.
You played a great game with Japan in the Pacific, and I keep getting bad dice there trying to pick off your forces, so it is a long, tedious and frustrating campaign. When I killed off our carrier forces there during our live battle, I should have been left with 4-6 aircraft and Japan with none, but the dice left us with 3-4 aircraft each and you saved your transports. It seems like every time I attack your blockers, I lose a sub, DD, or air unit in exchange. With a huge Japanese economic advantage, there is little the Allies can do to offset it.
I can see now that the only chance I had to turn the tide quickly was my 1-2 punch to Denmark and taking Germany, and the subsequent weakening of the Germans. Since that move was undone, I have no advantage there anymore. Your airpower in Europe cannot be matched without American help, and the Americans are needed in the Pacific at this point.
I think we both learned a lot with this game. I think PTV is a superior iteration of A&A. I like it better than BM3 or OOB rules. I believe you can compete well with the better league players if you want to give it a go.
I was thinking along the same lines. The game was dragging on. It was your win. I guess i just don’t like to live with my mistakes, so something I have to work on.
And you’re absolutely right about brain power and time expended when you could be using it for something more productive. But I’ll probably keep one game going just because I like playing. Thanks for the game and time. Take care
