I don’t want to go into too much detail on what you did for AA50, as that game has its own sub-forum, but I’m glad you were able to find my advice generic enough to apply to multiple A&A titles.

However, for the Anniversary game, playing a more aggressive Germany is usually favored in the 1941 Scenario (due to how weak the Soviets are at the start of the game), and even somewhat in the 1942 Scenario (If Germany can make a foothold in Eastern Ukraine early, Japan can reach the territory with almost its entire airforce on J2, there is a thread on this strategy I’ve posted in quite a bit called “Unstoppable Axis Strategy”, if you’re interested).

The Pacific route may like an attractive path, but in practice, it take much more naval investment to protect the transports.

Typical air and naval:
Germany - 5 fighters, 1 bomber. 1 fighter is usually lost in ukraine and baltic fleet is sunk by uk
Japan - 2 battleships, 2 carriers, 5-6 fighters, 1 bomber, 1 destroyer, maybe 1 sub, + any transports japan bought.

Japan starts with a much larger naval threat, and US would need to invest 50-150 IPC for a US pacific fleet to survive.

Also, the Atlantic route is shorter than you’re describing.
The typical starting route is for land units purchased in East US to move to east Canada. From there, a transport can move it to Algeria each turn. From there, transports can threaten South Europe or West Europe. US also has the option of placing a fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. That fleet can transport from Libya to Ukraine, Caucasus, trans jordan, Southern Europe, and Western Europe. A US1 buy of 1 carrier, 1 transport, and land units is a great start to accomplish this.

The main thing Allies are doing wrong is building India without help from USA in the Pacific.

For your next game, forget about India.  Use the MiddleEast units to counter-attack Egypt on UK1.  Spend the money you would have spent on the factory on infantry and transports.  Then start dumping men either in Algeria or in SZ2 (Karelia or Arch).

If Germany is pursuing an all-tank strategy, you can try dumping a large amount of infantry/tanks into Western Europe with UK and USA back-to-back.  This would happen on Uk2-Usa2 or uk3-usa3.  Germany then needs to attack this force, and if they retake it, UK is in position to hit the remaining tanks again.  This manuevor is very costly to Germany and should allow Russia to take the offensive.

Plans are easiest to actualize if you have a clear objective.  Focus on either KGF (all Allies attack Germany) or KJF (all Allies attack Japan).  Ganging up on one Axis or the other enables you to take a capital, which is the key to winning the game (ie get to Berlin before they get to Moscow).  Learn KGF first–save the India factory for another time.

Never buy 6 art r1.  Good buys are 5 inf 1 art 1 tank or 3 inf 3 tanks.  The most popular are probably the most effective R1 attack is Ukraine/West Russia.  Reasonable inf/art ratios are around 5:1, and reasonable inf/tank ratios are around 3:1

In the future, naybe try not to land in EE if it is deadzoned.  Just take it with minimal forces and stack Karelia if you can hold that.

With what you have in the Pacific, I think you have a real shot at winning.  Japan seems like they will never get a navy to compete, so they won’t be able to ferry troops over.  And if you take out the Indian complex, he is going to have a real issue, having to build even more complexes, and the prime sports, i.e. near the coast, are all in danger from the USA.

Because the med fleet will be blocked by a Russian sub, Germany, at most, can attack UK with the following:

6 infantry, 6 armor, 6 fighters, and 1 bomber.

I like the 2 FTR, 3 INF on UK1 myself so that isn’t that bad a battle to fight really.

7 INF (2 UK Start; 2 US; 3 UK1 buy)
2 RTL (1 UK, 1 US)
2 ARM (1 UK, 1 US assuming SZ1 TRN sunk)
5 FTRS (2 UK, 1 US, 2 UK1 buy)

Take the Bombers as 1st round casulties and you aren’t too bad.

Moving the UK BB and TRN and the R sub to SZ6 will draw off some air power as Frood says it is aprox. 78% for the UK/R in the naval battle with just 2 subs and a Des.

One of those things you shouldn’t feel too bad about losing though.

I disagree with your analysis–from what it sounds like, UK1 was played quite well.  Ignoring Japan for a few rounds is not a problem.  As far as I can tell, the main factors contributing to Allied loss were
—not contesting Africa (big one!)
—losing the British fleet (carelessness + your luck)
—Panicking on the USA west coast–your landing in Canada could have been handled easily

Sounds like there was solid Russian play all the way through, and mostly sound Allied play, but with the aforementioned oversights.  If he had shut you out of Africa and not had to rebuild the USA fleet, I’ll bet Germany would have been about ready to collapse by the time Moscow fell.  Generally the Allies can win if Berlin falls even a round or two after Moscow.  I don’t think the idea of letting Japan go for a while and going full bore against Germany is wrong as a big picture approach, it just sounds like a couple of the details were botched.

Yea, I never said it was a good strategy, but it does give you the option of really decimating the allies early on.

i’m a pro-axis player myself. i’ve always been interested in WWII, and especially in germany. so i always enjoy it more

mind you, i’ve played germany so often that my mates always try to make me play a different nation. mainly an allied one!  :lol:
