thanks for asking. for significant naval battles, I usually like to go round by round, at least initially until it becomes obvious after a certain round, then I’ll let you go max defense. with land battles, sometimes when there are AA guns or bombers, it’d be good to ask first about those. otherwise you can assume max defense. for bombings and scrambling, if it’s really obvious, no need to ask. but if it’s close or there’s an important strategic consideration, then best to ask.

no, you can’t retreat if you kill the transport, as by doing so, you “conquered” the sea zone, even though you lost the overall battle. however, I believe you could have opted out of taking the transport and retreated instead.

no, you can’t retreat if you kill the transport, as by doing so, you “conquered” the sea zone, even though you lost the overall battle. however, I believe you could have opted out of taking the transport and retreated instead.

I’m starting to think that actually, a sub cannot retreat if there are only defenseless transports. that it has to finish them off (much like one cannot retreat from a land battle if there are only aa guns left). however, for this, it’s best to ask gamerman if you really need to know.
