Earlier seems to be the consensus. J1 is still intriguing but I’m not sure it’s the right play in balanced. That said, I’m not a T1 or better so…
Also probably depends on what you do with Germany. You don’t want US in the war early if you are going to do Sea Lion. Not sure what the other considerations are.

Oops I didn’t see the 4 mobile infantry that could attack SZE. And then I get very bad dice. I think you are behind, but that makes it much closer.
Uh oh, I thought I was simulating this game locally. Umm not sure what to do.
Among other problems it had might fighters attacking Southern Italy which was meant to be a bombing raid.
I’d like it if we could ignore all the moves and dice rolls that were sent for the US and UK turns as I thought I was running a local version of the game.
Though if you want, I can keep the only very bad roll and kill off the US bomber.
