    As far as going south, with a slight tweak you could have easily broken through. Relying on strafes is pretty ineffective. If you would position your air better you would be fine. I dont know why you keep parking your air in Nov. Huge waste. Allows me to do whatever I want in Med and limits your options. If you parked them in say Yugo with an air base you could threaten everything important, defend everything important, and easily break through Rostov. You had the firepower and the freedom to use it, particularly the last few turns but poor positioning gave me some easy options.

    You are doing the same thing with japan (not using your forces and letting me get setup). You buy all this stuff but then dont use any of it or use it in one dimensional ways. You bought tons of ground for Japan but other than take india, you did nothing. All those transports and you havent used them at all. A little more island pressure would make a huge difference. Now its too late. In europe, just slightly better positioning of your air and you would be good to go.

    For example, I blocked in Rostov/Bry a few turns with 10 inf 1 aa 1 ftr. Your strafes have an average expected tuv of +6. If you positioned your german air so that you could hit both with everything, then instead of strafing you can hit with a few inf/art and all your air and smash that stack. Russia cant afford to let a stack like that get crushed more than once, if that. You do that once or at least threaten it and then you can walk thru rostov and you are good to go. And meanwhile you protect the med.

    What do see as the merit of Yugo for an airbase? Greece or North Italy seem more flexible and problematic for the allies.

    Yugo is in range of 110, 112, Norway, and Bry. It’s also defensible, and usually German and earlly Italy can struggle to afford bases. Greece is nice but to far from northern see zones and Norway, and significantly less defensible. Northern Italy is nice but doesnt reach bry which is really important to breaking thru to money early on.

    But airbases in more than one is great. But if I had to pick one for early rounds 3-6, it would be Yugo.

    Yugo is in range of 110, 112, Norway, and Bry. It’s also defensible, and usually German and earlly Italy can struggle to afford bases. Greece is nice but to far from northern see zones and Norway, and significantly less defensible. Northern Italy is nice but doesnt reach bry which is really important to breaking thru to money early on.

    But airbases in more than one is great. But if I had to pick one for early rounds 3-6, it would be Yugo.

    Once germans have a stack in Ukraine or Western Ukraine, you can usually stack almost all of the german/Italian air in Yugo/SIt. Sometimes you can just use greece depending on allied position and then you dont have to worry about the airbase. But if you purchased some ground G1 or mech G2 it can hit bry along with all your air on G5 and force russia to back off and then you are good to go and can break into the money. Sometimes its delayed and of course sometimes allied position dictates other necessary moves but it usually works.

    Cant say for sure as I cant look closely now but if you had done that on G5 or g6 you probably could still have defended and forced me out. Maybe not G5 but probably G6. Certainly you would have been better off with something like that then repeatedly putting air in Ukr, bess and Nov.

    I have been wondering what to do about the Italian fleet ultimately dying. Buying a CV only increases the death. You might have something here.

    yeah I think one airbase is better than a cv. Sometimes 2 is appropriate but not always. Forces allies to commit a larger force and then gives you the option of scrambling 6 ftrs or more or not. carrier means you have to have ftrs on it for it to be useful and then they are lost. Yes its mobile but it doesnt seem often that the fleet leaves 97 unless allies ignore med, in which case you probably dont need the carrier anyway.

    Something worth trying at least.
