    Regarding what I was thinking to go for this battle, USA was radically out earning Japan. I felt the decline of Japan had already started was likely to be terminal. USA had 2 objectives and Japan had lost 2 (DEI, IJ/Ok). Few reinforcements were on the way so I would have little trouble fixing up the income problems after a successful battle. Some allied shipping was in the Indian ocean and I didn’t want those ships to join up with the Carolines fleet.

    Anyway, that’s what I was thinking about. I could have tolerated a slow decline in Japan, retaking one island per turn with my whole fleet which if kept together you couldn’t fight quite yet. I didn’t really like that idea though. I didn’t really see how Japan could win in that scenario.

    I still think this attack was not called for. I think you should have bought 10 subs in sea zone 6. There were no allied reinforcements coming, However I see you may worry about a possible merge with the indian ocean. The problem with the attack is you have nowhere to land your planes, only carriers. If you damage the carriers you have no landing spot and if you dont damage them you dont have that great odds. You know all this

    I was going to reclaim India but you may have it for the time beeing

    I just didn’t see any path to Pacific victory without it. Maybe I should have thought better than to play for victory on both maps but I didn’t want to give up.

    Difficult judgements all the time. Thats why we play, right? I think if you had bought 10 subs you force several things. Then i pretty much HAVE to reclaim India with everything i have. Becsuse then i have to leave the Carolines. If you have India and can position your fleet at the Carolines the allies are in serious trouble in the pacific. Also, imagine what freedom germany would have if i stacked india.

    I dont want to grind it in your face, but i think you pretty much had this game in the bag…

    Yeah, I was kind of feeling that too. So I guess on that sense I shouldn’t have taken a risky battle, which would destroy my fleet. I still felt Japan was contained in spite of my relative successes in Europe.
