Definitely agree with axis-dom. You overstretched in SZ110. SZ111 was a risk I understand but SZ110 invited a scramble which you weren’t really prepared for, especially with the German buy which implied a G2 DOW. Scrambling SZ110 had a +7 TUV expectation.

There is no way of attacking both fleets without having a positive TUV from scrambling at least one. You have to decide how to balance both attacks and it’s normally SZ110 that has the largest swings, also it has the naval base so if you don’t finish of the BB there it is instantly repaired. That’s a major problem. In some cases people will only attack one fleet, normally SZ110.
But yes, the dice were against you. You have to worry about this more than a potential attack on you. If you have a potential 70% attack on you, there is a good chance that the attack won’t be made. This reduces the chance of the battle going against you. Whereas when you are attacking there is no chance of the attack not being made obviously - just a ~10% chance of a disaster in this case.

Thought this was pretty ok, hypothetically, but I think we can conclude that I was heavily diced in both sea zones. ;) It happens and I’m not bitter about it, but I think I agree with that sz110 needed another tac. I’ll try and learn from it.

as Simon was trying to explain, when Germany isn’t prepared to follow up with a sea lion, even a win could end up being a pyrrhic one if she loses a few precious planes in the process. the fact that you ended up doing poorly was just a big fat bonus for the allies. I would’ve been content even losing so long as I blew out a few planes in the process.

that’s one approach people take. another approach is to add more air power. yet another is to provide a credible SL threat, to make the brits think twice about scrambling.

I’ve never done anything like this before. Noticed after my NCMs that you could actually hit sz6 with 1 sb and 2 figs, so I changed my NCM shifting back 2 figs to Japan. Hope that’s ok. Also I missed putting back the art on the transport by New Guinea after having moved in troops by Kwangtung. Hope it’s ok.
