I couldn’t protect fleets in both Java and Phil. But then I realized that while your fleet can reach Phil Sea, your planes can’t reach inland to attack. So I brought planes in to garrison and scramble; and brought the home fleet to Hong Kong naval base. I didn’t have enough ground troops to take Shensi and hold it against a counterattack. I did most of my naval and carrier air NCM during combat move, to make sure I had enough units in the correct place at the end. The transport off Sum couldn’t be protected from the Indian air force. They sacrifice themselves for the Emperor.

I would have preferred losing infantry in China than a bomber in India. And the surviving bomber only rolled a 1. I’ve always been unlucky in SBR India. In some games, I SBR Moscow with 5 or 6 bombers without an AA hit, maxing out damage. At least my SBR caused you to build a few fighters instead of masses of infantry.

Yay, the dice were kind to the Guam defender, who is now hiding in his cave. Denies you the N.O. and saves me having to retake it. The U.S. has 3 CVs and planes for them; and the allies have 7 loaded transports in the Atlantic, and its only turn 4. Italy has 6 fighters and an airbase in N. Italy for a strong defense of sz97 or offense against Britain in the eastern Med. But the fleet can’t defend both coasts of Italy at once. With Bal Mod play reducing the use of Taranto and even Tobruk, Italy and UK both keep their fleets intact longer. Euro Axis will have to build lots of ground troops, as it will be hard to sink a 3 CV fleet. And troops for the eastern front. Luckily, the Luftwaffe was spared losses at the opening, so I don’t have to expend much for fighters and TBs. And Italy’s legions are well on their way east.

The curse of the Japanese bomber continues. This has happened to me before. AA gets 1 of 2 and then the sole survivor attacks the next turn and AA gets it. Shensi was a set back for Japan in China. But I can’t complain after China’s bad dice luck early in the game.
