    I probably shouldn’t have bothered putting blockers to prevent a U.S. move Northwest. I could have put another blocker off N Guinea, but ANZ could still have taken Java. Japan is okay as long as I limit my exposure to the U.S. bombers. Italy had to go total defensive builds. This time the Italians out diced the Brits. German bombers will head west to throw back any U.S. invasion.

    I needed that, after losing the gamble of attacking Tambov with just one ground unit and the defender hitting. with 1/3 chance. I needed to take Tambov to keep Russians out of Rostov. Now Axis can’t retake Caucasus if Brits take it this turn. Also may not get Volg.

    The really big, decisive battle is next. The equation changed when you moved away from an airbase. The 3 ANZ fighters that could be scrambled in Caroline, turned the battle odds for me from positive to negative. Now you moved away, but kept the Allied fleet essentially unchanged. The 2 fleets have similar composition. But Japan can bring in 4 land planes from Asia and 3 subs from Sum. 8 of my 10 planes can land on land. So I can take 2 CVs as hits without ditching any planes. Bat Calc gives me 85% chance of winning. Easy decision. I can sink your 4 transports. I still have the home fleet of similar size, but you don’t. I can build replacements close to the front line, but U.S. can’t. I won’t try to take Java, since I plan to take most of the ships as hits, leaving the planes to fly away. The U.S. bombers and ANZ fighters could sink my surviving fleet and any transports on a counterattack. Japan will keep the pressure on India. UK has done a good job of containing Italy and aiding Russia and India.
