So here’s what goes through my head during this Yamamoto’s turn.
Okay, I have an 84% chance at Borneo. I MUST take it. Not taking this factory/capitol is deadly for the Japanese.
I will need to take enough islands to block the ANZAC fleet from destroying my transport fleet. Hmmm… Thailand is in trouble, and their turn is after UK/ANZAC/Dutch, so they can’t help take those islands. Korea has a vast territorial expanse, but it will soon start shrinking, especially if I take Hong Kong forces to help Thailand out. I guess I need to take that 1 extra inf out of Borneo to take another island to barricade against the Anzac fleet. I hope my 79% comes through!
I’ve also decided I will most likely take forces out of Hong Kong to attack UK forces in Thailand. I can’t lose a capital. Yam could take it back, but then the Anzac might be able to bust through the islands. The goal is to be able to have my own land bridge to the islands as to avoid a second naval build up that I can’t afford. If I take Borneo, 8 inf/elites is much cheaper than several dds a turn.
Okay, Anzac still has 2 fighters that can attack lone transports, so I’ll move the extras for protection to and group them together. Are there any US bombers that can reach those SZs? No, so it’s just the Anzac airforce I need to be concerned about.
Looking East, I can take Ponape as the US fleet has moved North. No threat from Hawaii with no troop transport capacity or airforce there.
The US will create a land bridge to Russia. I will purchase mostly navy, and some air for a future super carrier. They aren’t in a position to attack Japan itself, but might venture to the small islands north of Japan. I need to be prepared to counterattack and amphib to take them back. I also must continue to buy 4 land units for Davao to keep taking the Dutch East Indies chain from Anzac. I’ll go with two inf for fodder and two marines for cheap 3’s on any attack.
I’ll do one last cycle through my units by hitting the ‘N’ key until it cycles through them all. I see nothing else to do.
Last, I’ll check if Hisaichi needs any immediate support from Japanese forces…he does not.
I wished I had destroyed at least one of those UK transports that are moving land units to Thailand.
The dice were okay. I didn’t take Ponape, but that has less strategic value than Borneo.
Future threats: The US has a sizeable fleet. Not much offensive capabilities, but a lot of transports that will be used as hits before I get to the meat. My navy as a long ways away from being a threat to him, however with a mostly transport force, he isn’t to me either. We’re at a stalemate, meaning I can’t stop the land bridge for many turns. Hisaichi will also soon need to be reinforced along the coast to halt the Chinese advance.
On the positive side, Yamamoto does not feel threatened on any front. I have more landing capacity than ANZAC and will slowly take the DEI island chain. The US is focusing on saving Russia, which doesn’t threaten my capital at the moment, though deploying via Alaska is a lot closer than via Hawaii

So I’m not doing so hot this game. Germany failed to take Paris, and I’ve lost Thailand. Down by 110 production. Japan is doing well, but not enough to offset that.
Germany does seem poised to push into Russia. I’ll need to offset the 4-5 land units per turn from the UK. I’ll try and squeeze out enough money for a fighter per turn to both threaten his navy as well as become firepower for repelling land invasions. If Germany takes Greece, I can foresee possibly going into the Middle East for additional cash. Not getting the Paris plunder and the additional 11 ICs / turn that Germany normally gets shifts the strategy more towards Italy’s favor.
I don’t have enough land units to think about Norway/Sweden income. It’s about slow and steady at this point. I’m not threatening much, but don’t feel too much pressure from any front at this point.
I’ll need Italy to step up and make a break out move soon. Morocco will be good, but dislodging the UK from Cairo will be difficult with the UK’s money.
