Touche’. I knew that UK might move fleet to protect Egypt, but didn’t think you would invest in airbase and move in all planes., while still attacking Iraq and Syria. The dice were kind to you. In Syria and Iraq, you could have lost your ground troops and not taken the territories. And my DD could have given a hit. Now, your fleet is too strong to attack and Italian fleet and army are too weak to stay where they are.
That airbase in Egypt is golden. I lost a game earlier this year when I DIDN’T put an airbase there to protect my fleet, and a bad-Allied-dice battle sunk my fleet. So, you may use your Luftwaffe to sink it, but as in the real war, remember that any airplanes you lose will have your best Ace pilots, and that will come back to haunt you later.

I didn’t actually need to take Syria or Iraq that turn, but I did need to kill the units in Syria, so that I could guarantee that the Suez would remain open for my ships

I expect Germany to provide substantial air power for Italy to take out and hold Egypt. I saw how useful it was for you as Germany, instead of Italy, to take Greece, with its deep pockets. But it turned out to be more than I bargained for. An airbase in Greece, will give double protection for the Italian fleet in sz97. But your consolidated position off Egypt with its airbase, and your 3 transports, are a serious threat to Greece itself. Even 3 fighters isn’t enough defense, I will have to commit substantial ground troops that should instead be going to Russia. Or else abandon Greece temporarily. I have to decide if its worth tying up UK resources so they don’t go to Russia. U.S. can garrison Gibraltar before Italy can reach it.
The Brit scramble in Eng Chan left its homeland devoid of fighters, but also reduced the number of German planes. At this point, Germany can’t capitalize on the lack of RAF, without neglecting Russia or the Med.
Yes, the Battle of Britain in the Channel was a bit is a draw, but it cost Germany vital air units. The dice could have been a lot more extreme either way, so it was a bit of the risk for me to scramble. But it annoys me to give up perfectly good ships without a fight. I am delighted by how historical the game can be sometimes.
Well, I am off to run a large family reunion from July 5-13, so I won’t be able to make any moves in our game. So you are welcome to take all the time you need to ponder Germany’s G3, and what to buy and how to split your resources for the Russian Campaign, and the defense of Fortress Europa. Italy won’t surrender until at least 1943…

After making Japan’s combat moves privately off-line and saving it, I see that I want to change my builds. I have 90 lines of combat moves and undoing moves. Rather than try to recreate all of that in a new file just to post different builds, I am posting here my revised builds in advance. I will post the game through the combat move phase first. At the end of Japan’s turn, I will edit the change in builds.
Original builds: 2 infantry, CV, DD, & minor I.C. Revised builds: 4 infantry, artillery, 2 transports & minor I.C. Change: remove CV & DD and replace with 2 more infantry, an artillery & 2 transports. Please let me know if this method is acceptable to you.
