Since Germany has been stalled in W. Ukr, it would have been better for Germany and not Italy to take that territory, so Germany could have built an I.C. and built artillery every turn.
What to do with Italy is always an interesting choice in a close game. I never shy away from Italy taking territories, even Ukraine. The can opening moves that Italy can do setting up the Germans is very, very effective, and German air can land on an Italian territory on the same turn as when the bulk of the German army moves in.
The Italian fleet is another matter. Its value is evidently overrated. I just conceded a game (as the Allies) in which Italy never built a single naval unit. They built a fighter on turn one, then all mech inf and tanks. Neither Italy nor Germany ever took Gibralter, but what Germany did in the Atlantic and what Japan did in the Pacific with their J2 attack and subsequent turns left me on my heels, and I had no answer. I will look at your other game to see how the Axis were able to offset your UK consolidation. I’ve never had a game before where ANZ took 2 African territories. A loss for Brit, but ANZ gets stronger. I thought an ANZ CV was a possibility, since it gives your fighters greater range to attack Java and land on the CV. This forces me to maintain a bigger presence in DEI, even while the U.S. stays in Hawaii.
I like the colorful nature of the board in Africa with the ANZAC territories. Very soothing turquoise. Actually there are 3 if you count Tobruk.
Actually, the turquoise is very pretty. Will take my turn this evening. Will be outdoors today now that the heat wave has broken. If the Euro-Axis had started better, I might have given you a run for your money., My new Japanese strategy seems to be working well. But with the Euro Axis contained, its just a matter of time before the Allies turn on Japan.

I had wanted to strat bomb Russia the prior turn, but held off. I probably should have, as its the only way that I can reduce Russia’s builds, since Germany is stalled and Japan isn’t in a position to attack Russia. When Germany takes Bry, it opens up territorial gains that increase Germany’s income to 80+ and reducing Russia’s income. The economic difference makes taking Moscow less important short-term.
Russia went 0-for-6 hits. Germany’s good luck with AA offsets Japan’s bad luck. Germany needs luck more than Japan, so that’s good. Let’s see if Brit draws troops and planes east to defend India, rather than north or towards Europe.
