Another purchasing strategy you may consider is 1 fighter and the rest inf.  First couple of turns you should be able to do 9 inf and a fighter.  Helps with bombing raids on Moscow and those 4’s can really come in handy in big battles.

Quoting the rule book:

If Japan attacks any Soviet-controlled territory that is adjacent to any Mongolian territory, all Mongolian
territories that are still strict neutral or pro-Allies, or have joined the Allies as a result of a failed Japanese attack, are placed under the control of the Soviet Union at the end of Japan’s Conduct Combat phase.

So technically speaking, they first become pro-allied as Japan attacks them, and then become Russian.

On a side note, I suppose that the Mongolians would remain neutral when Japan attacks a bordering territory that was originally Russian but is now no longer held by the Russians. For example: Germany takes Moscow, and a German tank drives all the way to Amur, capturing it. Next, the US captures Amur from the Germans. And then, Japan attacks the Americans in Amur. I think the Mongolians would remain neutral in that (unlikely) sceanrio.

That’s okay, I would also increase the number of German submarines on the board and put some convoy zones out in the mid North Atlantic that hurt US Economy (and UK Economy)

But then, if we implemented my changes, the Germans would need a significant bid again probably.  So yea, in the case of game balance, realism does need to take a back seat (that is not to say forget it completely!)

Then u have a better chance at taking Finland if guys are left behind.  I’ve never done it but I missed a perfect chance at doing it once.  Germany had no transports and the whole air force was out of range.  They were busy taking out the uk navy and the us navy.

I was just adding ideas to the thread.  It’s only 7 ipcs and it makes Germany have to think of different scenarios to defend as opposed to pure offensive.

Yeah, it would be. This is the last time we’re playing the old set. We start playing the 2nd Global next. I’m looking forward to a much weaker US and a much stronger Germany.

Well, it seems that Darth Maximus made an error. I agree that no transports means absolutely nothing. That is, it means America can do next to nothing with real meaning. I didn’t say we/I don’t build transports early with the US, we simply believe in defense first: more combat ships than transports. It isn’t impossible to fight America, they are fallible and you do have to exploit their mistakes. It just isn’t always easy to see.

It is hard to fight America due to distance and economics. Ultimately, there is no stopping them. You simply have to delay them. Yes, I am reiterating what you have said and what we have been discussing; delay is the only way.

One just has to be wise about it, not wasteful. And it isn’t an easy job if the Americans know what they are doing. If one’s aim in the game is to strike the Americans I find it typically to be a distraction and a diversion for the Axis, one they cannot routinely afford.

Sorry, I’m thinking of my own historical rules in which Romania starts neutral. ~Posting on this soon.  Yugoslavia or maybe later on Ukraine?
