I’m often unlucky in AA. Just had a bad strat bombing turn in a G40 game. As U.S., I bombed S. Italy, which had 3 interceptors. As G40, only 1/2 hit expected each side. Defender hit 2/3 and I only hit 1/3. So only one bomber did damage. Also bombed Normandy and AA hit 1/1. So I lost 3 bombers and only did 6 damage and one fighter for -20 TUV. Expect 5/6 bombers get thru, for 27 1/2 damage and lose one bomber: net 15 1/2 TUV, or +3 TUV per bomber.
I’ve heard of German players going south if Moscow is too heavily defended. But never experienced it. In my forum games, most German opponents go north of Pripet marsh, so they get N.O. for Leningrad and don’t get stalled in Ukr, blocked by Russ in Bry. You’ve done well to get plenty of offense early and will have enough fighters to offset my allied fighters. I’m trying to figure out what to do.
Yes, I’ve had my share of unluck with strategic bombing attempts. It can definitely swing the game. In our game, I expected 1 or 2 hits, and saving that extra Fighter and Tac Bomber was a huge plus for me, as well as saving all the Bombers. Almost makes up for my failed attack last turn.

The Brits and Chinese really stuck it to the Japanese in China. Yunnan is one territory that I always try to attack with one more ground unit than the defender has, and lots of planes. Interesting, highly unusual build of an air base in Java and somewhat uncommon in Hong Kong, the prior turn. You’re making sure you keep all of DEI and know you can retake Phil back easily. Java is easiest for ANZ to reach from I.C. in NSW and planes can reach from Australia. You’ll have to commit lots of resources on a permanent basis in order to keep Java. Will take my turn tomorrow night.

It’s very frustrating being the Allies in the Pacific. Japan retook isles captured by Allies last turn, using fleets with 2 CV’s So they could use planes and bombard to ensure winning, and protect their transports. Allies can retake isles, but Japan would just sink the transports and retake the isles. U.S. can’t advance fleet into Japan territories, because 2 Japan fleets can reach, and planes could reach and then land on the other CVs, plus bombers and land based planes can reach. I did retake Phil, because I gained 7 PU.

I thought 3 infantry would be enough to prevent Italy from clearing Rostov, but you surprised me with more Italian air power. At least it cost you a fighter. Luckily, an Aussie pilot volunteered for a suicide blocker move to save the Brit army in Cauc and the Russians in Stalingrad.
I expected Italy would take TransJ to block the Brit fleet. But I would have had to put at least 3 ground troops there to defend against Italian air power. Perhaps I should have put a sizable army there anyway to go to Russia.
