They’re are three territories in USSR far worth a total of 3 ICP that Japan and take over and still not piss of Mongolia. I have only ever seen a player do this once but Japan and USSR not going to war is usually very useful for Japan as it keeps a front close and 9/10 times, USSR will be the one to invade which turns Mongolia into a strict neutral.
Japan taking soviet territories bordering Mongolia

Question I have concerns after the Soviets have fallen to Germany. What happens if Japan scoops up Soviet territory bordering Mongolia?
My opponent says because soviets are defeated then another allied power fills up within the Mongolia border…preferably US. I say nothing happens as long as Japan stays out of Mongolia. The surrounding soviet territories are now under the control of Japan -
What? The Mongolian rule still activates unless it has been nullified. And it’s still Soviet troops who spring up, even if they have no other units on the board.
Normally Japan will wait until Germany can run a tank to Amur in that situation but perhaps not always.
