I’ve run the numbers and if I take Novgorod, you can actually take it back. Hmm, is this game over? I had something I didn’t expect when I got the J3 Calcutta crush. Paid a bit more for it than usual, but still a good win there. I think perhaps I should have moved into Yunnan even if it meant missing out on taking Java or Sumatra. I paused in Hunan for a turn to consolidate which will mean I may not be able to hold it until J6. Not that great after losing Korea to USA.
Perhaps I had the Western defense right when I put a bunch of Mechs in W Germany and artillery in France. I just haven’t had enough in some games I guess. One time someone retook France to crush the artillery.

I was very surprised that you allowed the J3 Calcutta crush. It doesn’t appear to have caused you any trouble at all! And in fact, it’s really caused the Axis trouble. I could have just positioned to take it J4, and on J2 just taken Celebes, Malaya and attacked Shan State and/or Yunnan. I’m now thinking that the major reason to hit it J3 is to whittle down the UK troops which would be heading to the Middle East to then give Germany an easier road to take them out. Interesting!
I’d also have saved a DD blocker and been able to mobilise in Kiangsu to help the fight against China and used a TT to bring some more troops from Tokyo. Wow!
