actually better I stop here. Obviously this has almost certainly been a foregone conclusion for 10+ rounds now but I wanted to see how close I could get by trying to get units between your stacks and the capitals. As I’m sure you could tell, I thought I would try Europe first and then thought maybe I could get behind you and get back in the Pacific. It was fun to try. And I think maybe with a few different choices I might have gotten a bit closer than I managed to. Anyway, thanks for the indulgence these last few rounds and thanks for the game. This was epic! Farmboy, I saw you on the winning side for 3 times in that game.
First, after that Allied disaster in TJ when you got Egypt first.
Second, when this total annihilation took place in the Pacific with Japan not losing any significant strategic ground.
Third, after you convincingly cleared up Normandy.
I didn’t dive deep into the position but I was surprised how fast the Axis allowed the Allies to regain an unpenetrable fleet in the Pacific again and how fast the Allies got their beachhead back in Normandy.
I looked to me the Axis had the upper hand during this game and I think the path to victory would have included to a) deadzone and seazone closer than Caro for good and to seal Western Europe forever against any further Allied invasions :)
I mean, it certainly required good playing to even get Adam under such pressure. But in the end, the Allies recovered from being on the ropes for several times and thanks to Adams experience and great play they managed to stay on top in the end.

And last point (even if I believe I give away some strategic thoughts that might be relevant for the playoffs.
Italy had the choice to either seal Gibraltar or Egypt and they chose Gibraltar.
I personally believe that the strategically better option is to seal Egypt.
Thanks jdow. Certainly I agree that I felt like I was in a winning position earlier at a few moments, thanks in part to some good dice too. And I failed to capitalize on those moments. Part of that is a question of experience and my sense of what happens next. I think an error I make in general of trying to do to much at once. And I think the expectation that my victory would run through getting an economic advantage made me a bit complacent and defensive in moments where I was close. I think I often over defended areas that Adam wasn’t likely to go for at the cost to opportunities elsewhere. And there were points of carelessness where I expected to hold or be in a position to retake territories. That happened with Gibraltar, Egypt and Normandy. Anyway it was all very fun and I’m happy to have come as close as I did. And as much as I squandered it Adam’s play was great.

I pretty much agree with everything JDOW said. I thought I was going to lose at multiple points in the game. A couple of different moves at a few places would have lead to an Axis victory. For example, when you got Egypt and built a factory there, if the Allies maxed their threat on it you could have still held it. If you build the factory, you need to make sure you will keep it. I didn’t try to max Egypt but I still put pressure on it so that you’d give me something else instead, but you let Egypt go and that became a vital UK strongpoint.
After the naval disaster I think you went too much land focused with Japan, you should have kept the naval pressure up.
All in all though, very good playing! I’m not letting my next opponent take Axis without giving me a bid :relieved: .
