@yazoinkergrapft Yes, the United States is allowed to declare war. If it does, the sea zone immediately becomes hostile, as there are enemy surface warships in it. However, since the United States is not declaring war until the Collect Income phase, during the Combat Move, Conduct Combat, and Noncombat Move phases the sea zone is still friendly, so the United States can still occupy it freely. On Japan’s next turn, its units in the sea zone will be starting the turn in an enemy-occupied sea zone, so the normal rules for that situation apply (those units must either move away in combat movement or attack).

A lot of posters seemed stunned at this scenario, never scene it ever happen or even could happen. Now that I mulled it over last night and looked at the rules and so forth it is very obvious to me why no one has ever scene this scenario. Because the scenario makes no logical sense.

Italy DOW on Russia and moves in 2 tanks into Eastern Poland.
Russia is now at war with Italy and can DOW on Germany at the start of their next turn, turn 3.
Germany on Turn 3 does not DOW on Russia and just non combats into Eastern Poland.
Russia at the start of Turn 3 DOW on Germany and off we go.

There is no logical reason why Russia would not DOW on Germany at the start of Turn 3, none.

Heck you could argue that it makes no logical sense that Germany did not DOW on Russia at the start of G3 since Italy brought Russia into the war and Russia WILL DOW on Germany on R3.

From my perspective, if I was planning on doing a G3 Barbarossa AND I wanted to drive towards the south, then yes, it makes sense to not DOW. My stack will be together except for the minimum required mobile units and maybe 1 AAA in Poland so Russia doesn’t attack Poland to get their NO for occupying an Axis territory. But E. Poland will be real strong because the German air will be there and maybe bombers will also be in range of a raid on the Moscow factory. Also, 5 IPCs is more income than I’d probably get as Germany on the 1st turn.

There are a few disadvantages of course. 1, Russian blockers can’t be attacked. 2, the Scandinavian units are behind. But for me that’s ok, I just use them to lay siege anyways. I never expect to get Moscow on turn 6 anymore. I assume that the UK/Anzac and that lone French fighter are going to get to Moscow.Â

As a house rule, I would like if you could pick secondary targets w/Kami’s, so that if you get lucky rolling 1’s & 2’s you get all your hits.

How it works now is you generally send 2-3 Kami’s at each ship to try sink it, (or at least damage a 2 hit ship). So say you send 3 kami’s at a Battleship, and you get 3 hits. That’s awesome, but you still only get credit for 2 of your hits, the 3rd hit doesn’t count (even though it got a hit). You should be able to apply that hit to another surface warship of your choice. You should be able to roll all your kami dice and have all the hits applied to enemy ships.

I also think that if you manage to kill all the enemy escort ships, then your kami’s should be able to target the transports (transports last). This would also apply to un-escorted transports as well.

The US cannot win this battle.  The fighters will continue to defend in the air until the battle is over.  The Japanese fighters and US subs can’t hit each other, so the fighters will sink transports until the US retreats.  If the US wishes to conduct this amphibious assault, it must bring units that are capable of hitting the fighters.

This is one of those unique situations where you are required to take Trn as losses before subs because that is all the unit can hit?

Yes.  They just need to be the only legal selection for a loss.  That might mean that planes have no other target (like this example), or that Sub hits have no other ship targets, or that the defenders hit everything else in a round of combat and need to assign some more hits before the defender retreats.  Remember, the defender still has the option to retreat, if they can, and transports are only automatically destroyed when they’re attacked, not when attacking (unless the attacker has no place to retreat).

Well, i now have more than 25 games of G40 Alpha +2 completed, and i NEVER, EVER got the chance to use Kamis… Not once !
My opponents always send just transports and men to capture islands that would allow kamis, or if the sz are defended, they send just subs and planes, or when they finally threaten to invade sz6, they have such a large fleet that the best move for Japan is to leave sz6(leaving just 1 or 2dd doesn’t work since they will once again send just ss and planes during CM, then move the rest of their fleet on NCM).

Kamis can’t shoot at subs, transports and planes…So i’m waiting for the day one of my opponents will attack sz6 with not enough ships and planes so i can stay and fight and finally use Kamis !..
