Pacific Islands worth 3 icps

I figure there aren’t too many things classified as Islands that would have air bases so far away as to make them invulnerable to shore bombardment. The air fields on Guadalcanal and Wake island certainly got hit and both Hickam and Pearl could be hit from the sea. By definition, this ability assumes no defenders. Even a single scrambling fighter or defending destroyer nullifies the ability.

I agree this should be addressed. On the custom map we use all islands are worth at least 1 IPC, which helps somewhat, but like you said, it’s only financial.

I like the supply concept you have. Instead of tampering with all the unit stats, perhaps you could say that no surface attacks can be launched unless a friendly land zone is located in an adjacent sea zone. (double that distance with a naval base)

Also Axis defence would be streched on 3 island instead of 2, Allies can have better option for amph.ass on italy using corsica as a base for bombers and fighters

I think its worth it, just for the warhawks hehe. Though I agree that the game would have been a much better investment (and a better play too) if it had included a unique artillery sculpt. The OOB 1941 game benefits immeasurably from the inclusion of artillery in the roster. I use 1942.2 art sculpts when I play it.

Depends where you buy the game, but if you can pick up two copies and ship them at the same time, you get a decent number of fighters and tanks. You’re still left holding the bag on Italy, Anzac etc unfortunately.

Revised has some nice colored units for UK and Germany, with lime greens and grays. I still like the mini stukas. The limes for China and the Grays for Vichy or Romania can be cool, you could probably get some mileage out of them.

I wish HBG made a few more pieces to supplement the older boxed materials in similar sculpt colors. But you can still find some decent stuff there, might be cheaper. I like 1941 though. Its map is a crazy shuck-fest. Sucks to buy 2 or more copies just to get sculpts, since then you have another map you don’t need, but hey at least you can snap up a couple extra roundels in the process  :-D

I’m still surprised that A&A doesn’t put out supplemental materials for the regular boardgames. They did it for the miniatures game with the larger sculpts, but not the boardgame, and the boardgame is the only one I play! I like my sculpts tiny and matching the official materials when possible. ;)

Agreed. When the experienced player took axis it was over quickly, but the second game the experienced player took allies and it became a much longer game. I will give this a go again soon.

I think that NO is historical correct.

The DEI produced a lot of crude oil during WWII and that made it valuable. But you have to refine crude oil into gas and diesel before you can put it on your tanks and trucks, so since DEI is a short way from Japan, this oil was more valuable to Japan, that could put it to good use in no time, than to USA or Europe that had to sail the crude oil to the other side of the globe in order to refine it to gas and diesel, and then sail it back again to use it in trucks and tanks at the frontier.

So your trying to tell me Australia had no refineries?

I’m sure they did, but what was their refining capacity. I think the Allies are stacked enough, without the extra NO

Anyone given any thought to playing AA:Pacific and integrating the AA:50 ruleset?  By this I mean:

1. 1942/AA:50 unit costs and stats
2. 1942/AA:50 sub and transport rules

However the specific Pacific rules could stay in force:

1. USA Marines
2. Air Bases / Sea Ports
3. Japanese destroyers can transport 1 infantry
4. Unlimited builds in Hawaii and Japan

There is little conflict except in regards to SBR, where it would have to be decided which ruleset would be used for SBR, and if SBR would still affect the Japanese VP.

Any thoughts from you geniuses on how this would affect the Pacific game?  Better yet has anyone actually TRIED it?
