Is there an official HBG version of Global 40 rules set?

Here is an interesting bit of historical trivia. The US 8th Air Force actually had bases in the Ukraine for a short time. From June to September 1944, the 8th Air Force started a shuttle run of bombers that would take off from England and Italy, bomb targets in Germany then fly on to 3 bases in the Ukraine, Piryatin, Mirgorod and Poltava. The reasoning was mainly to show solidarity with the Russians and to hit Germany from an unexpected quarter.
The mission was called “Operation Frantic”. I don’t think it was much of a success. One reason is that the Luftwaffe bomber arm was still fairly strong in the East. Some Luftwaffe planes saw the American bombers heading into Russia. Then when a shot up P-51 crashed in Poland, it had documents on the Russian bases. Luftwaffe command was notified and they send Fliegerkorps IV, nearly 350 He 111s, to pound those bases while the B-17s were lined up in neat rows due to lack of space. It was the 8th Air Force’s costliest single operation of the war.
I didn’t even know about this until I read it in World War II magazine.

Just 1 thing: Sweden should not be pro anything

Yeah, there’s a problem with Sweden being pro-Finland….  mainly that the Finns and Swedes had a rather contentious relationship due in part to the fact that Sweden and Russia both vied for control of Finland.  Many of the treaties between Sweden and Russia that resulted from these wars used Finland a a bargaining chip, ceding land to each with little regard for an independent Finnish state.  So yeah…  Finns don’t really like Swedes.

Tangentially, a Swedish historian told a group of us that in a treaty with the Russians from one of the final wars between them there was a clause that if Sweden were to engage in hostilities again against the Russians and they were to lose, Russia would claim all Swedish lands.  He indicated that this was one of the many reasons Sweden maintained neutrality, even when supplying materials to the Axis.

This uses all the Alpha rules except as follows:

On the first turn all Allied Naval and Air units defend at ONE. Land units fight normally.

2)The Japanese may attack the Soviets only by announcing one turn before this intention. The Soviets can attack japan only if all Soviet territory’s are under Soviet control.

The new turn order: Soviet Union, Axis, Allies

Lend Lease: The US or UK player can send income to the Soviet Union. Procedure: Buy a transport(s) and place it off board in a Lend lease Box. These transports can’t be used for any other purpose and the Allied player can just exchange them back to IPC’s as he wishes. Roll one D6 for each transport and place the IPC’s under the transports in the holding box. This money is deducted from a players treasury and the Lend Lease can never exceed a total of 30 IPC’s

Interdiction: Any axis Submarine, Plane, or Surface ship located in open sea ( not Baltic, Black, Mediterranean) can deduct 2 IPC each from this total. If they are located in a convoy box, they can cost 3 IPC each from this total.

Minor Axis Allies: Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary have unique forces ( use German pieces) these automatically join the axis on turn 2. They can freely move on that turn and Germany can move into them or build units ( Romania).

So in the above example, exactly how many IPCs did you spend?

Has anybody ever tried crossing rules between Axis & Allies with its Pacific and European counterpart. Such as Marines, Destroyers, surfacing subs, etc.? If so I am curious to know if the game turned out well. I agree it would make the game more complicated but I have no experience as to whether it makes it more interesting, fun, balanced, or simply a pain.
