You never control a sea zone.
Sea zones are either friendly (contain no enemy surface warship) or hostile (contain enemy surface warship(s)).
The result of a sea battle is that you have cleared it of enemy units (or not).

@panther Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, I have finished translating the whole rulebook, but I’ll be sure to use if I ever translate the 1940 and 1942 versions. Right now, I’m going to work on the Anniversary version instead, even though I don’t own that version (nor the 1940 and 1942 versions). Thank you very much for your help.

It’s a general concept of every A&A game (at least those on a Global scope, also 1940 Europe and 1940 Pacific).

I was confused by the rules for a while regarding that. I thought it was each group (all units that hit a 1, all units that hit at 2) roll for all the units.

When I moved on to Global 1940 and brought that mistake with me, it led to a problem where 12 US bombers (give or take) were unable to sink a Japanese fleet of 1 aircraft carrier, 1 destroyer, 2 fighters, and 1 battleship.

I figured it out later on, and I’ve been playing correctly for a year.
