I gotta be honest, we just had by far the weakest month since G40 was in its first year. In November there were only 6 games finished across all versions, and only 1 in the first 6 days of December. Maybe everyone’s taking a break at the same time, and/or maybe the games are more competitive and longer.
But there’s still plenty of action, and the playoffs continue to have VERY strong players in all 3 versions.
Classic has been added as a tracked league version of the game, though it doesn’t seem to have really taken hold. I’m back into Classic some, and maybe when I’m finally done with a big double elimination tournament, I’ll continually have 1 going. Pretty fun to return to the roots after actually learning the correct rules, thanks to resident EXPERT @The_Good_Captain -
There were 16 in October and 23 in September, so the 11/1 to 12/6 lull isn’t necessarily the new normal.

@gamerman01 Since we’re coming up on the end of the year, I think we should formally consider adding G42 with tournament rules as a league game. @Daaras @Stucifer and I have been playing it a bunch, and also playing some games with folks we met at Battlefront Dayton. Could inject some fresh blood into the league and also improve the odds that a league derived team takes down the national championship at some point.
Since you can’t really do chess clocks in a PBF format, I would suggest pre-determining that the game be a 6 round game for league purposes.

@gamerman01 I’ve been taking a break from League matches for a couple months learning G42 for Battlefront Dayton. Hard to switch back to the OOB/BM map when you’ve been spoiled on the PtV map for so long… :)
I do think G42 which is unofficially Larry Harris 1940 Global 3rd edition is very interesting to play especially given the constraints of live tournament play. Throwing empty carriers out as blockers and all-bomber buys are common round 4/5/6 moves depending on the pace of play.
-
I realize it splits the league up further when adding add more variants which does have drawbacks

that’s definitely a concern.

after i got into ptv this year for the first time, i thought i might lose interest in bm but picking up a couple good challenging matches with farmboy has proven that totally false. bm (imo enhanced global) is here to stay, still very fun and can (for me at least) coexist with ptv for i would think a long time
-
for me, however, it’s much more about high quality matches than the quantity. there were many years where i would play 10-15 games concurrently, but these days i much prefer 1 or 2 high quality, very challenging matches.

@axis-dominion
3rd edition Global with a little redesign to incorporate the split-sea zone island groups and a couple other balance adjustments from BM/PTV (Sea Zone 36, NOs) would be a pretty good Christmas present 😅😏 -

I appreciate the thoughts and initiative,
It will take some pretty serious interest ala BM4 or PtV to get me to add another G40 map version -

It is a project I’ve been thinking about undertaking this winter and if I have willing test subjects… 😏😁😁

As it changes the start date, it is actually a variant, not a separate edition.

@Booper Chinese bots have been hitting the site.

As AD says
i ll rather play 3-4 high quality and competitive games, then 10 fast ones, one sided.
The high quality of the tournaments just proves that the interest in playing this game here over forum still exists :)
Tehnical part is also important, overall in this year the site worked fine , triple a is great, we have the community here that helps quickly about rules , some situations which players encounter and are not shure what can they do.
Respect for all of U that give their time for this great site and community

And it seems that Karl is absent for some time , so its logical that the number of games fell :D

Someone signed up for the 2025 playoffs today, which prompts me to announce that
Signup period for 2025 playoffs is open! Check minimum games played rules - if you have a “playoff spot” ranking in the spreadsheet that means you’ve qualified already. Qualifications must be met at the end of 12/31.
Signup must be in to me by 12/31, if I’m creating brackets 1/1 you generally won’t be able to enter the fracas of
First round of playoffs all happening January 2026!
Best way to sign up is private message me because your post on the forum could be overlooked

i know i’m not that good but i don’t see my name in the over all standings

@dawgoneit Thank you for saying something,
Players are able to change the views of the sheet.
The filter was on, so it wasn’t full.
Select “filter views” up there at top right and select “all players” or “only active players” and you should be there. -

Is the league still strong?
It is weaker without you. But I am having trouble getting wins.
