@crockett36 This is my interview with AAAgamer, champion 2021.
-
Thanks a lot @crockett36, I have watched 7 minutes so far and loving it. I’ll say more after I watch more, over lunch, here.
I am already in awe that @AndrewAAGamer owns and/or works at a proper board gaming store, or one of his older brothers let him use it as a prop, not sure yet (I still need to watch the whole interview). And on the exotic NW coast, no less.
Love it so far. I was a kid in the early 80’s who thought it was exciting to shoot rubber bands at army men on the coffee table. Actually, there were little catapult things and quite a thrill to take down a whole column domino-style. We didn’t have TV and didn’t live in town.
Now Andrew explains that he went online when COVID hit and he wasn’t able to play in his groups in the area
I look back at the standings and using the ELO spreadsheet, and wow, first game result in April 2020, right on schedule.
I’m only at the 9 minute mark in the interview, and pairing that with seeing @AndrewAAGamer s body of work in the league since April 2020 is very interesting.
COVID greatly accelerated the use of video-conferencing and greater reliance on the internet’s capabilities, but we online gamers have been very shy and we don’t know each other but by some text chatting.
We like to kill each other’s army men with clicks.Thanks for doing it you guys and I will keep watching and I want mooooorrrree!

2024 league rules adjusted slightly for the A&A.org fundraising drive!
@djensen Dave’s idea to give a perk for supporting the site, and I agree with the following and have already changed the rules because I know there will be little to no opposition to this:
Higher badge level is a factor in seeding playoffs. If you have the same ELO as someone else, we look at your head-to-head results that year. If that’s a push, badge level is the next factor. (That could be a tie too, since everyone will be gold after today, so there are more tiebreakers after that, fear not)
Higher badge level has the right to make the opening bid for any regular season game. Same badge level and both want to bid first? Then die roll.

That is my gaming room. It helps to be older and have bought the games over a long time when the first came out.

'kin I come over tonight? 🤸♂️🚴♂️
My 1940 boards haven’t been out too much but yours look mint
I’m at 19 min mark of interview, loving it, want more people to do it

ABSOLUTELY!!! Still trying to get a consistent gaming group going here in Florida so happy for anyone to come over and play!!!
-
@AndrewAAGamer Shoot. Seattle, Florida, either are too far for my bicycle
It’s the thought that counts, thanks!!
-
And we have more excitement for you this week!
Dave Jensen, site founder and leader, has an idea for a World Cup 2024 event that is a tournament with rounds and teams of 4-6 players, with sub-squads, across different versions of A&A, much/most of it could be played online.
That’s just my breathless version - read his organized one!
In the “Events” section of the boardshttps://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/40559/axis-allies-cup-2024-discussion-and-planning
-
1942 2nd edition is very popular outside these boards, thanks in no small part to the Beamdog PC game (which I believe is available for some tablets now?) It is also my go-to for face to face play.
I don’t want to split League play up more than it already is between OOB/BM/PtV - but is there a good way we could capitalize on some of the recent surge in interest. I saw in Steam metrics that there was a pretty big spike of viewership/players in January. A couple YouTube channels (Board Game Nation is the biggest one) show corresponding peaks as well.
-
Would you go ahead and provide links to these things, here?
-
https://steamcharts.com/app/898920#All
Peak users a couple weeks ago nearly matched March 2020https://youtu.be/uBMCB0AUciI has 167k views on a channel with only 10k subscribers
I think there might be an appetite for “world champion” that might work well with the algorithm or something? I’m not a YouTube expert 😅
-
@Stucifer Thanks!
And look at that huge COVID bump! LOL
People stopped working and started having fun -

@crockett36 This is my interview with AAAgamer, champion 2021.
At the 12 minute mark, Andrew talks about how he’d love some kind of all-time ranking to see who’s the best ever.
We have that now! :-)

Guys, we have another great interview,
Another high flyer in OOB,This is Crockett36’s 2nd 1 hour interview with one of our reputable league players. The first interview being @AndrewAAGamer, also available on Crockett36 youtube)
ABH is a veteran in our league, with 68 games since 2015. He won the most recent 2022 OOB playoff, as the #10! seed! So you should want to see this.
-
@gamerman01 key to winning as the #10 seed is to have good luck with the dice. 👍

@Arthur-Bomber-Harris @gamerman01
@PantherGot a rule question: I (think to) know that you can purchase more units than you can build, decide at end of turn what units are placed (as many as possible) and the other units are transferred to next turn. Is this true and will it also be true if I loose that Power’s last factory = capitol before the mentioned “next turn”? What does happen to the remaining units, are they stored up to whatever next turn with a possibility of placement?
-
The units are not “stored” they are returned to the box and the cost of the units is reimbursed to you. TripleA does not do it that way so you have to edit it.
Axis and Allies 1940 Pacific Rulebook 2nd Edition - Page 22

-
oha, thx for this enlightment!! I found it in the Game Notes now, too
-
@pacifiersboard
@AndrewAAGamerJust for completeness:
Current prints of the rulebooks have slightly changed the wording to:
“In the event that you inadvertently purchased more units than
you can actually mobilize due to production limitations, you
must return the over-purchased units to the box (your choice
on which units), and the cost of the units is reimbursed to you.”The only difference is the introduction of the word “inadvertently”.
This implies that you are not allowed to intentionally ‘overbuy’.
