What you get in your booster or starters set?

lol, I got my son his first gameing system this year, Nintendo DS and your probably right, but so far he is still willing to sit to the table with dad.

Mot, basically there are only two new tanks, a couple of changes to some tanks that are in other sets, renames, country changes, costing changes.  You know the changes better than I do.  See below, I’ve list the ones I know.

I would suggest only to add the two new tanks and work on set III.  Need some Panzerschreck HELP!!! with the new IS2 tank.  A platoon of Panzerfaust is not enough to kill it.  Defense 7/7 + superior armor.  Even if it’s disrupted the Panzerfaust needs to roll 8 out of 10 to damage.

my thoughts about this…

you are getting 18 pieces totally random. appr. 9 axis and 9 allied pieces. building an 80 point army. if you pull a 30-40 point rare tank awesome… but what happens if you pull a 50-65 point tank… you almost can’t use it. and what if you get the pieces i consider “time and place pieces” that have uses, but not every day army usues… it just seems it could get too unbalanced too quickly with only 2 boosters totally random.

however i am thinking 3 boosters drafted instead of random gives you more options… i would prolly suggest 100 point army or true tournament style with 2 different 80 point armies. with the draft you could either draft heavy axis or heavy allied with 1 army or if doing 2 armies makes you select the best piece from the box. it takes some of the randomness of opening out of the picture. then if you pull that 50+ tank you could be more inclined to take a good UNC instead and hope that you are getting passed a 30ish tank that the next player didnt need for his army.

honestly there is so much that you could do… and withing the next 2 weeks I will be doing this… will post all rules and results after then.

what we do know… it will be 4 players with prolly 3 (maybe 4 if we have lots of time) boosters choosing (1x reserves, 1x d-day, 1xcontested skies) or we could sub in a set II or base set as we will be doing the 10 pack to save money and give most variety.

Does a face up disrupted counter effect the Goliath’s special ability?

The two dice rolled as part of Remove Control are unaffected by disruption.
However, if they succeed, then the subsequent attack will get the -1 from the disrupted counter.

Rangers are strong competitive piece, though unless they get new (non-improved) indirect fire units the Spotter SA is mostly just thematic.

As the opening salvo says, “its inevitable that it will be compared to the Axis workhorse, the SS-Panzergrenadiers.” Quite true, though thankfully the Rangers have enough differences to keep them from being just carbon-copies.

The Lead the Way SA is interesting in that it’s once per turn, not per phase (or during movement and/or assault), so be careful when you use it; unless it’s to grab a last minute objective, re-rolling a movement roll isn’t too important, though thematically it’s nice.

Spotter is again nice, if not too useful. The M1 81mm Mortar doesn’t need a spotter, nor do spotters enhance them, and the open back M7 105mm Priest is an easily neutralized unit. I suppose you could save 1 point and use the Russian mortars instead if you really wanted to. Also, lacking the Spotter SA they can’t enhance aircraft.

The Rangers have slightly improved defence and a re-roll over the similar Veteran SMLE Riflemen; the only time the Australian unit is, well when you can’t take Rangers (eg Pre-1942 game). By themselves the Rangers are at the high end of 5 points, but compared to the Garand they perhaps should have been 6; as is they make the Garand fairly useless. Sure the Garands can have the same dice, without a re-roll, but that requires more points for an adjacent commander, and is -1/-1 defence.

A great unit that I’m sure will see a lot of use both in casual and competitive games: 4.5/5
