Morning Knp.
The Italians had no inclination to fight the British and even less the Americans, when they joined the war.
There was also a massive class divide between Officers and the enlisted man. This made morale very low and did not help create a fighting force. Italians were happy to be left alone.
The Italian army was also a foot one. Hardly any units were motorised and that would prove a problem in the vast expanses of desert and the seesaw nature of the campaign.
The British were lucky when they attacked in Dec of 1940 as they had only had limited objectives. The advance was so uncontested, that they kept going until they had Benghazi and Tobruk.
Being Italian, I love to laugh at my WW2 army’s dismal performances and unwillingness to throw their lives away for someone else’s glory.
When the Italians switched sides, however, things got very bloody as civil war broke out amongst the Fascists and Communists. Many Italians proved they were not afraid of dying once they had a real cause and future in which they believed.
My dad’s dad was in Africa, Russia and later ran and hid from the Fascists in Tuscany.
Sea Lion Discussion

Now a days if I want to get wild, I buy bombers g1 and g2 to seriously blow away the middle East with air and Italy walks through it. If USA goes Europe italys 30 ipc bankroll holds up really well.
-
So you don’t see sea lion as a standard as much because uk can defend itself if it buys and doesn’t do anything silly like transport units off London… Usually uk picks up from east canada and can add to London if needed
-
Canada is really a huge pain for Germany because of that since Canada has about 4 sea zones they can deploy navy in. One of the reasons why I think Canada needs to be their own nation.

I don’t think that’s right. My standard move is to attack SZ106 with 2 subs, which prevents this from happening 90% of the time. Sure, the SZ109 TT could move there but that only works if you can sink the subs first.
If somehow the SZ106 battle is lost or only one sub remains after G1, then it might make sense to hit it with the SZ109 DD, but only if it doesn’t have anything better to do, like sinking the Bismark.

I don’t know that Canada as a separate nation plays that well. A separate economy might be ok though. There is a mod with the Canadian nation in it, which I’ve played once from the lobby. Although Canada does have the same virtue as France. It can be played quickly.

I never understood the logic of giving Canada there own roundels and then continue to press them into UK while giving ANZAC there own nation. Hence why I argue Canada should be played as its own.

I propose the counter argument that ANZAC should just be considered part of UK/Pacific and their IPC collected by the UK.
Then again how would that effect game balance? If India could use all of ANZAC production in the defense of India?
How would, lets say, diverting 5IPC to UK Canada and take that away from UK/Europe effect game balance.
If you split all the UK Commonwealth countries into their own nations, own economies, then that dramatically effects the game.
So you have.UK home island
Canada
India
AnzacNow, on a historical level this might be a good move. Then again we are playing a game based on history so game mechanics over ride historical accuracy for game play and having fun.
-
Except that argument is pointless to me. Even if you cripple London by taking away Canada, the Axis regardless will have the advantage in the early game however the Allies will always win in the end due to having more numbers and a higher GDP.

Then again if canada only has 5 ipcs it can not build ships so it has to save money, giving the allies in effect less income.
No need to split up the game into even more parties with less income it just does not really work that well.
My argument for Canada is to just reshape there territories. I have already come up with several (I guess) good NO for them however all the territories in CA should be Canadian and have a value of at least 1 and give there capital a value of 3.
-
- merge all UK into 1 to open choices and power em up.
- give Canada to Anzac instead of UK EUR
- give Canada to UK PAC instead to split factories and make UK PAC have more $ more options of how to turtle/survive
- make the allocation of money, units, or territory into 2 or 3 factions optional to the player of UK at game start in the manner of your choice.
all easy house rules to change things up, though UK ATL income is already too low… Canada has too little $ to make it independent–whats fun is the factory being there if another power can run it.
- give Canada to the USA or the USA to Canada (the Benedict Arnold and Reverse Benedict Arnold)
-
Canada as a separate nation (or economy) would make it easier for the Allies to play through Sea Lion.
-
but reduced UK ATL income? Its a fallback?
Unless we boost it with pieces (grey or tan) and income, then its a great idea
