Wow, you definitely got dice real bad there in SZ37. Sorry. I think Italy got diced on it’s 1st attacking where normally it would not have lost it’s air force. Regardless, I think the UK Pacific losing it’s air force is much worse.

There is a way to still stack UK Pacific forces on Burma on round 1 or 2 and not have to worry about a Japanese India crush. You’ll have to check the timing; Of course the allies have to be in sync.
Chinese fighter goes to Burma on turn 1 or 2. Don’t send Chinese infantry to Burma (which is legal), but they could get cut off or stuck down there.
ANZAC can get 1 or 3 fighters there on round 2. Obviously Java is 4 movements away.
Must have a blocker in SZ37, plan fails without that. UK Pacific, ANZAC or the French destroyer, you have 3 to work with.
Add those 1-4 planes (Chinese/Anzac) plus the 3 UK Pac planes and the entire UK stack (buy a tank or 2 UK turn 1 for extra defense). I would not suicide my air force on that kind of stack; especially when you’re concurrently stacking Yunnan every round like you do. I don’t think Variance would either. Take an hour some time to run it against yourself and see the odds calculator. Normally people do the Pacific DOW and then stack Yunnan real tough, but now you have to find a way to stack Burma real tough. Meanwhile, you’re Russians up north would still be causing problems.
Option: Instead of jumping on Sumatra on round 1, you could save your UK transport to take 2 infantry from Malaya (of course assuming I didn’t hit on turn 2) on turn 2 and add them to Burma. For me at least, I often hit Malaya because you’re blocking a lot of money islands. However, this may still not be optimal because often players go for Malaya regardless to deny India the money. I don’t care because I’m going to convoy that sea zone anyways. (Next game you won’t have the chance to hit the fleet, LOL).
The only real disadvantage is that I’m going to bomb India if I have the chance since I won’t have to worry as much about interceptors. However, my bombers seem to get shot down all the time.

On second thought, maybe you have to stack Burma on round 1 because Japan could take SZ37 at the beginning of their second turn. So no ANZAC fighters. But with the Chinese fighter and the 2 from the UK, you’ll have 3 planes there plus ground and 3 AAA. It might be enough to deter an attack and or make it super pyrrhic for Japan to lose that much air. On round 1 you could get a blocker in SZ37 while transporting 2 extra infantry from Malaya to Burma.
It’s one thing to clear ground, but I don’t know if Japan could really take that amount of plane hits by clearing Burma while the US is coming real hard to help China and threaten the money islands. For instance, without a super strong light saber (Japan’s air force), Japan can’t threaten the US from stacking on Philippines right away with ANZAC following them.
