Help please with multiplayer using CDROM

So this weekend I will be playing the allied powers versus my friend who will be playing all of the axis powers. He has hinted over and over again that he is going to use a new strategy that he is very confident in. And that this new strategy means that I wont know which way he is going until turn 4. Has anyone else ever heard of this or a similar strategy? Or does anyone have any advice for how I should be changing my play style to anticipate a round 4 attack?

Me and my A&A friend have bin playing Europe at War on the ABattlemap. There is oficial rules, but their realy complicated so I sort of made up my own rules. All in all though it’s very similar to any other A&A, just altered IC costs, movements, and I added in those square things as fortifications. We’ve bin playing for about 3-4 months now (France refused to give in).

Anywho, heres the sit rep: I’m the Allies and I’m in deep trouble. The Italians after the whole game of being held off smashed through Al Alamayn. The UK had almost no reserves and wass easly pushed way back. Qatar is the only outpost left in the SE end of the map and will probly fall soon. With that the USSR is being threatened from the south now. the Battle against Germany is turning into a complete standstill with the germans with a slite edge. In the west, America is only creating a minimal effect as it can’t get out to the UK cause of all the Axis ships. Same with Brits, They’ve made a comeback, but the Germans are still holding them off. Also the UK is getting carpet bombed! The Axis have Scapa Flow so the whole island is vunerable. I got him to stop bombing London and Bristol with AAs and fighters, but it only has mimimal effect.

I don’t know if anyone can see it or not by I’ll post the map here. I’m at a loss! I thought I could win, but now with no Middle East, the Caucaus being swallowed up slowly, and the Atlantic going no were fast, I don’t know how to get out of this one without some miricale.

EDIT: Alittle change, He threw some 60inf 30art and 20arm at Stalingrad so thats gone and surounded the lower Caucauses so no their completely gone…I’m screwed arn’t I

it honestly never occured to me to check out lite. Think i’ll do that.

But I assume you’ve played a lot of historical, so maybe you can tell me, does the russia, then axis, then allies, then axis & allies ad nauseum turn structure alter the gameplay in anyway, does it effect balance negatively?

I mean one of the major components of OOB A&A revised that is integral to strategy it seems is that something can be done on one powers turn that cannot be undone until anothers, or that something is pointless to do because it will be undone on the next powers turn, etc.

If say germany and japan go at once, does it open possibilities for unbalanced moves that are hard to counter?
Or conversely, on the allied turn, russia/india can be reinforced it seems to a greater extent before otherwise “normal” axis gains can be made (for example normally germany and japan will get to make a little progess before the US or UK can field units to help defend russia)

I will say again, that the revised historical map is superior in one vital way, to me, that other maps are not, and that is the ipc values for nuetrals and the increased number of victory cities, just having this on the map opens many new rules possibilities that can help break the monotonous mold of most games were the same moves are made over and over and the dice are largely the grand determiners of success.

Sure there are a great many more “gorgeous” maps out there, in terms of the color scheme, layout, addition of convoy zones and such, but most seem to lack the expanded IPC listings, the numerous victory cities, and yet still closely match the revised map enough for my tastes.

Man-o-man! That’s nothing like what I’ve seen.
The two expansion packs I recall were less than 3 oz.
and smaller than a new comic book package.

i dont know what your talkin about. i played as allies vs my friend who is very experienced and i won (wasnt easy tho)

u need to employ tactics man.

for example i made a raiding force, and built up like 6 bombers, and a strong navy, beat the japs out of phillipines and then built a factory there (dont worry if they did take it its not very useful to build there) and i kept strat bombing them (6 moves to japan and back to phillipines) and sending troops to sumatra, borneo, and the rest, until u have a decent invasion force, then its cake

jap player only got to 40 for one round in my game. be a coward in china, hold all your troops up in schechwan since rest of china is worthless and u cant attack to get korea or manchuria. build a good force of arty and infantry in india, hold back britains navy until its strong enough to severely damage the jap navy. use combat air patrols to protect your boats. watch for the strategically significant naval bases and airfields.

keep in mind tho no strategy is 100% in axis and allies. its like chess… on steroids… with luck involved!
