We are working on a How-to-Play video for 1942.2 that will be finished soon. It is a detailed look at every aspect of the rules with lots of examples. It can be watched all the way through by a new player or used as companion to the rulebook. I worked with a number of the games top players and a few educational experts to make sure everything is accurate and easy to understand. Yes, it is a very long video.

We are in the final editing process now. We look forward to sharing it with the community in the coming days.

I’m thinking about using the planes on the CV to support ground assaults for the UK rather than the US. Too difficult to get US troops across the Atlantic in reasonable numbers.

I agree the problem is a very weak middle for the Allies. Have to play with the Bosporus Strait closed. Generally I like a bid of around 12-17, although I have sometimes beat my friends at 9.

A Russian fighter for the bid helps a lot, you can attack Baltic States and West Russia, and then land them in Egypt, Transjordan (with a tank) and Evenki. You get a pretty big opening, hold the Suez canal, put yourself in position to counter Japan for a single crucial turn, and lay a trap in the Caucasus while stacking W. Russia to receive British fighters. This is nice because it lets you help the British in the beginning but you end up with a Russian fighter, which is the unit which gets the most action in any game, making or breaking a lot of trades and adding a lot of defensive power. Also if you convince Germany to buy navy round 1 then you at least spare Russia through round 5.

Once you get over 15 with the bid you can start doing stupid stuff that totally changes the game… which can be very fun.

I know about those. I love them, but I meant a whole map redesign (example: China has 3 territories). That would be even cooler.

Now that I understand the rules properly (well some of them anyway :lol:) I can see a whole new set of options for the UK, in Egypt, India & possibly the Med, perhaps including SZ37. wittman’s G carrier in the Med is also making a whole lot more sense. And my use of R fighters looks set to change. I will just have to be sad enough to play one more solo game to test these out I guess.

I can not think of any previous game I have ever had which would have interested me enough to be as sad as that! :-D

My humble opinion is if your J strategy’s top priority is about capturing India, consolidating J Navy is perhaps a better option than PHGL so that you have 100% focus on Middle East.

Thanks innohub. Good to hear that I might be on the right track, as you always wonder whether your “lessons” are just blind alleys created by basic newbie errors elsewhere.  :-)

Just to register the value of Pearl Harbour light, I can imagine playing it if G has control of the N Atlantic. BM probably uses PHGL because he always achieves that. Then there is value to reducing the US fleet that will challenge G.  Plus there is a little more time for J to get to Moscow before the Allies get across the Atlantic. So not given up on it yet, just trying to place it within the strategic “map” of the game. :|

Similarly I’m looking for 1940 Global map to print.  Anybody?

I just tried instead of Karelia to push directly with the Germans for a G4 Caucasus capture, as Cow suggested on another thread, and it’s a pain to stop.

R1 fighter to Egypt is solid but at the expense of Germans taking Caucasus on G1 or spend nearly all your tanks on Ukraine. But if you have a strong German push you risk being overstretched with the Soviets because you’ll have 4 attacks to make R2 and 3 of those will be countered (Karelia, Ukraine, Belorussia) and the units destroyed.

One possible option for UK/US is to perform the SZ37 UK attack and invade Solomon Islands with the US forces but buy everything for the Atlantic on US1. If the SZ37 attack is successful then the Allies briefly reach naval parity with Japan but that will change quickly. But this way you’ll have two fleets, both capable of having some effect.
