Okay. The ability of China to build troops in any terr, even one that it just recaptured, is huge advantage. I didn’t see the combined stack coming. Jpn doesn’t have the tts to end run on India, which is adequately defended.

I thought ANZ would send its dd and tt to Java to block Malay fleet from joining an attack on U.S. fleet in Aust, while also retaking Java. The battle calc says Jpn would win sea battle in sz54. But the unit and power numbers are fairly even, and U.S. could take hits on carriers and planes could retreat to land and bb could repair if it survived. But Jpn fighters on damaged carriers would crash and bb would remain damaged and couldn’t reach a seaport for repairs in one turn.

Holding Yunnan in balanced mod games is much tougher than standard games. Still, with proper ground troop management there is no way that China should be holding the territory on round 6 when Russia completely abandoned Siberia. Check out how some of the top players do the first couple of rounds. I like to transport a couple of ground units across into Korea on J1 and build a transport in Kiangsu on that round. Fast movers built J2 in Kiagsu can hit Hong Kong on J3, freeing up other critical units in Mainland Asia to knock out the Chinese.
Japan should have strafed the 4 Chinese ground units in Szechwan on the previous round. One or two Japanese planes would have been lost, but it would have broken the Burma Road and prevented the UK troops from meeting up with the Chinese. Always look for that key strafe that will prevent China from recapturing Yunnan. I am willing to sacrifice a few Japanese planes if it cripples China.

ABH: I did build IC in Kia J1, 3 tanks in Kia on J2 and used them to take Hong K on J3. But I also used inf/art to ensure against bad dice and not have to take the tanks as hits. I built 2 marines on J1 instead of tt. I only moved a few inf from Man on J1, because in the prior aborted game, Rus returned to the border when Jpn moved away too many units. J2/3 I moved south, but not SW. Perhaps that was a mistake. As for strafing, all Jpn planes were engaged in successful attacks on land and sea, including the critical retaking of Java. So none were available to perform strafing, which would have required 4/5 planes. Besides, I’m not accustomed to it, the few times I’ve tried it went badly.

Russian sub making a name for himself.

Yes, that’s the second time that sub has beaten a dd, one-on-one. I could have had a sub escort the dd, but gambled on the 40% chance that the dd would survive. I didn’t want to commit too many of my limited navy, and I wanted to get rid of the Rus cruiser. I built and moved defensively in Europe in case the blocking dd was sunk. I can’t decide what Jpn should do to contain the stacked Chinese/Indian army in Yun. And haven’t thought of what to do with my fleets, since an attack on Aust won’t succeed. Just glad that they can’t attack together, altho their turns follow each other before I can move. I’m headed out to work in the yard while it’s still sunny. Weather is 20 degrees cooler than yesterday, but tolerable.

Norway is the soft spot. Without tts, I can’t reinforce it directly and it will take several turns for mobile units to move thru Lenin or be built in Lenin. On the other hand, damaged carriers in the fjords, don’t have a friendly land terr for fighters to land or naval base at hand to repair, as in the Eng Chan.
