I could have done it even without those additional units since I could get a couple bombers along with another couple of planes to hit the SZ and land on the unconquered island.  It would be a very rough game without those US ships.

That US transport has to either stay in the Carolines, or alternatively undo that combat completely.

Undoing it completely makes sense, keeping our ground units alive.

It was a tough decision.  I figured that I would save my fleet at the end of G1 and build sufficient number of bombers to make it more expensive for the Allies to move to Europe.  I like having those ships to soak up the hits if I need to do a big bomber+fleet attack.  The alternative of placing them in SZ112 and taking out the fleeing British ships was considered but I am fine with this outcome.

Italy will die eventually.  They actually are doing much better than I expected considering a +40 bid for the Allies.  They are going to have a couple more rounds of income before getting crippled.  My main desire for that country is to have a few units along the Eastern Front and have a few planes that can support minor attacks against weak Russian opponents.  After that I just start adding more infantry to prevent an easy capture of Rome.

Yeah, the goal of the bid is usually to make the Med and Africa boring for the Axis.  It is already in the Allies favor to begin with and the additional 20+ spending there puts it completely out of reach.  That extra mech and a transport made things tougher for Japan, but hopefully we will get back towards a normal game soon.

I will be interested to see what Russia does this round.

The game is in a very pivotal moment and I can see either side winning depending on the moves and the dice rolls.  Regardless of who wins, you have to admit that the Axis still can have a good shot of winning even with a +40 bid for the Allies.

No problem about downloading the save files; they are public property when we play on the Forum.  It is quite obvious in most games where the Allies are strong.  In this game SH has been spending heavily in the Atlantic so he is doing better in that region than in the Pacific.  If I had captured Sumatra on the last round, the Allies were going to be in deep trouble in that theater.  Meanwhile I have to be cautions in Europe since he has a sizable fleet that can’t be challenged by my Germans without ruining my chances of pushing deeper into Moscow.  SH is obviously a very aggressive player which means the first five rounds are totally thrilling and after that he is either in a great situation or in deep trouble.

Let me know if you want to start a +40 Allies game, SBC.  I might only be playing a little bit more this weekend since the weather in the mountains in Colorado is so beautiful.  I love the beauty of standing atop the 4000m-high Continental Divide and stare out at the snow blanketed mountains in all directions.

I certainly have seen the first rounds go badly enough for the Allies in a no-bid game that it is time to start over.  Usually I give up if Italy has captured Egpyt and can hold it on I2.

Depending on the deployment, Germany can lose in Paris on G1 between 1-3% of the time.  That is another situation where I usually give up.

Yup, that was a big mistake.  We will see how many mistakes he makes as Japan since he has admitted to being weak on that side of the board.
