CSub strategies: still applicable to A&AR?

Hate to compromise my deity status, but JWW is giving me quite the schooling in the league this year…he beat me in 5 rounds our first game, and 4 rounds into the second things are looking hopeless.  I managed to beat him a couple times last year, but I had to work for it–he’s hardly breaking a sweat!  Now if we could just get him to write some strategy articles.  :-)

Because it is not logical that the carrier does not start its move to meet up with the figher at the same time since it it start after the figher completed its move in a normal situation it would not be there on time to catch the aircraft.

Basicaly the time it takes for the carrier to get there is the same as the time it takes for the fighter to get there and since the carrier needs to be there at the same time in order for the pilot to remain dry it logical should start sailing in the general direction of the pickup point.

Since the Fighter in question could be “flying” from Gibraltar to the Caucus in one turn, I don’t think the model of aircraft taking off and landing as part of a days flight operations on a Carrier quite applies.  Especially since Naval aircraft are built very differently from land based aircraft yet the game makes no difference between the two.

A few more Q:s though, regarding FTF Tournament formats…

You usually play in teams consisting of 2 persons? And if the team loses, both people are eliminated from the Tournament? I thought five persons played the game, and only

What if no side has lost the game after 4 hours?? (should be fairly common)

What the h**l does Single Elimination stand for ?    :?    (English is not my native tongue)

As an example, AAR starts at 8:00 a.m. By 10 pm you are burned out. And you may still be playing. This is why 2 team members are needed. You will be at a disadvantage playing solo.

Yes, it is one loss oan out at Gen Con Indy. Swiss at WBC, which means you will play 3 games.

After 4 hours, you add IPC totals + VC points, and that causes a winner.

Ive done some calulations for DAAKs low luck rules for this tech to Germany…
My basic idea was to research the tech fairly quick, but more dice gets expensive with the DAAK Rules so Ive puzzled a bit with buying two dice per turn which will be an avarage cost while you get the tech fairly quick. This will cost 33 IPC over the course of the first three turns and then the tech will come in with a 100% chance in GER#3 and you can start using them by GER#4
Now you can take 3-4 IPC away from both moscow and London and 2-4 away from caucasus (the damage is based on DAAKs rules regarding SBR damage compared to IPC value of countries)
This is an average damage of 10 IPC per turn (3,5 + 3,5 + 3)… Profit for germany on turn 8, but at the cost of 11 infantry who could be used to on the eastern front to trade territorries with the russians. Im affraid that putting this kind of money in this tech would also mean that it will take much longer to conquer Caucasuses.

In the game I am playing at the moment (against a fairly inexperienced Gemany), Germany did not attack Egypt.  He used his BB and transport (and some fighters) to attack the UK Med BB and lost his transport in the battle.  He had bought a sub, transport and destroyer and placed them in the S.Eur seazone.

I (as UK) chose to defend Africa.  I picked up an inf from India and one from Persia and transported them to Egypt.  The inf from Trans-Jordan also joined them. The Indian destroyer was sent to destroy the Kwang transport. The Indian carrier was moved to the seazone above Egypt.  The fighter from Indian carrier, the fighter from egypt and the destroyer in the med attacked his little fleet under S.Eur.  I was only going to attack 'til I had sunk the transport, but got lucky and killed them all on the first round.

One fighter landed in Egypt while the other landed on the carrier (which reinforced Egypt on the following round) and the S.African infantry started on his way north to join the imposing army in Egypt.

America landed in Algeria with his forces from E.USA.

On Germany’s next turn, he chose to attack the American forces in Algeria, and although he wiped them out, his forces were also wiped out.

We are now on round 5 and with Japan threatening Africa, I have decided to abandon Egypt and make for Caucus to help with the invasion of Europe (America is focusing on the Pacific war and Japan is not yet knocking on Russia’s back door).  With 5 inf, 1 tank and 2 fighters in the army, Japan is going to have to send a dedicated force if he wants to take me out before I reach Caucus.
