Is the above posted to the correct thread?

    GG BTW.

No, that was an error on my part. I call it PEBCAK – problem exists between chair and keyboard! Alternately, we can call it an IDtenT error (ID10T)  :-D

If you want to go over the game and tell me where you think I made errors I would appreciate it.  I’m always looking to improve my play. Here is my list:

I’ll start by saying my Russian turn 3 was disastrous. I mean to strafe Leningrade, but I hit the wrong button on round 3 for retreat vs remain. The advance into Ukraine was just a major blunder on my part.

When I retook Malta and Cyprus, I knew the air battle against my fleet had a strong chance of costing me my fleet. If should have waited a round and built a destroyer or two in Egypt. I wound up regaining my NO at the cost of giving Italy it’s NO back for several turns – a wash really, except for the fleet loss. If I had waited a round, I could have kept my fleet and next turn started convoy disruption of Italy in sea zone 97. I don’t recall the exact turn here.

Once Manchuria was secure, if I had built a factory on the next turn I would have been able to replenish my losses faster instead of shipping them from the US. In retrospect this would have been a better play. I don’t recall the exact turn here, but I think it was around 13.

I might have to have a look at that but I think the opening you’ve posted above is a mistake. You make it a 50/50 scramble from Scotland but a clear scramble to SZ110. You can keep the Scottish fighter for Taranto. I would. If you are retreating from SZ111 you don’t need better than an even fight in SZ111. You normally lose one sub and dent the BB, rarely lose more than one plane.

The scramble to SZ110 hits the Luftwaffe pretty hard and makes Barbarossa harder. A stronger attack normally preserves all the planes to this square.

Turn 4. Yes, walking into Ukraine was a mistake which I capitalised on. I actually think you should have advanced your 9 land units in a rear guard action. The Leningrad attack was a mistake period.

But I could have bought more subs and one DD might not have made the difference to defending in SZ98. Hold in the Red Sea? I could have put down a blocker in SZ98 then.

An IC on Korea if possible and any serious chance of defending it is one of my standards.

One thing I learnt from this game is that you can be better off holding off on the Moscow assault to retake Norway. Flying fighters to Moscow is a real problem for Germany.

    Tiebreaker? We’re one each IIRC.

I could have moved the fleet to sea zone 98, dropped two DDs there, then dropped a CV and two figs the next turn – no amount of money Italy spent at that point would have helped.

In my opinion, you actually spent far too much effort trying to reconquer Norway. If you had poured those resources into killing Moscow, especially after my serious blunder on R3 (or 4 if it was 4), you probably would have won. True, you would have lost Finland, but it would have taken me several turns to push you out of Leningrad. By that time you could have destroyed the Russian resistance. Go back at any point and add the mechs and artillery you had in Finland to your attack on Moscow – you would have easily won the battle. Then you would have been fighting a two front war instead of a three front war.

We can, but it will have to wait til after Chrismas before I can actually start.

Yeah, I thought I had enough to retake Norway but you kept reinforcing more than I expected. Same problem in Moscow.
