yea i got discouraged seeing japan walk all over me everywhere.
i made a big mistake US9, when i had originally planned to buy an airbase (for algeria) and take scotland all out. however, i only realized i had forgotten to buy it AFTER i did the combats, and i didn’t really wanna ask for forgiveness, so i just played it out as is…but it really impacted my whole plan, as i could’ve possibly held scotland and made much more progress. instead i ended up holding ireland and it was far less optimal, and even caused me to get a bunch of units stuck there. the miserable result in turkey didn’t help matters either. i was hoping to lose no more than 3 or 4 mechs, not 8!
in any case, this is now TWO SL games i have lost, and they weren’t even close. so i don’t see why u guys are wanting to add the london NO. clearly allies are struggling as it is in a SL situation. no need to empower the axis any more.
-
yes turkey was harsh.
I think, in both games, your UK1 purchase/placement was so aggressive, that Sealion was not just viable, but a slam dunk. Axis obviously didn’t need the +5 to make Sealion work.under these circumstances. But what about games where UK makes the Sealion hurt a bit more (for example, building a factory in Egypt, but with 5 inf in UK. no scramble, etc.). The concern is that, without a sufficient inducement to Sealion, UK can have its cake (the UK1 Egyptian factory) and eat it too (making sealion so costly as to be unsustainable).
Bottom line is, a factory in Egypt on round 1, unless followed by viable Sealion, stifles the Med/Africa theaters too soon. And I thnk thats what we want to avoid. watchu think?
-
ok so what you’re saying, basically, is that you’d like to make the uk1 fac in egypt vanish from the playbook, further reducing the allies’ options and variability of play? i already feel like the BM, without the bid, has reduced variability somewhat (e.g., we no longer see russia getting involved in china as much, we no longer see the russians meddling in the middle east and africa with sometimes a hilarious cat-and-mouse type game going on there, i have yet to see a j1 dow, we don’t see germany having to come up with creative solutions to uk sub/air bids in the atlantic, and so on). sounds to me like if uk purchases up to 12 ipc or more anywhere other than in the atlantic–close to home–then u would like to see it severely punished with a SL, where the london NO is, in my opinion, an absolute insult to injury.
how fun is that for the uk player if his options are further limited? if he scrambles he is in serious danger of a sl. if he buys a fac or ab he is in danger of a sl. maybe from now on i’ll just plop all inf in london and call it a day? that’ll be my opening playbook from now on lol

good post. Responding to your points:
“(e.g., we no longer see russia getting involved in china as much)”
My experience has been that Russia does get involved in China more often than not, with BM. It just happens later in the game. And early involvement by Russia is still very much a viable strategy. . . see any of Gamerman’s four games against me in BM, where he played allies. He DOWed Japan with Russia early on in each game, and won every time (cuz i suck).
“we no longer see the russians meddling in the middle east and africa with sometimes a hilarious cat-and-mouse type game going on there,”
I note that in your games against both me and Adam514, the Russians were very much involved in the Middle East and Africa. In more typical games, its true you won’t see Russia making a beeline for Ethiopia, Libya, etc. But, personally I don’t miss Russia’s adventures in the Southern Hemisphere. It may be hilarious, but its also a ahistorical and a bit gamey. I guess this one’s a matter of personal taste.
“i have yet to see a j1 dow”
It is true that J1DOW is not the slam-dunk that it is in the vanilla game. One of our goals with BM was to nerf J1DOW somewhat, while keeping it viable. Notably, Adam has J1DOWed in the majority of his BM league games, where he played Axis. He won all of those games.
“ok so what you’re saying, basically, is that you’d like to make the uk1 fac in egypt vanish from the playbook. . . .maybe from now on i’ll just plop all inf in london and call it a day? that’ll be my opening playbook from now on lol”
lol. The Mod Squad is still exploring the extent to which the proposed UK/Egypt NO would restrict UK’s strategic flexibility. It has been suggested, for example, that an Egypt FAC on UK1 would still be viable, provided UK buys 5 inf, does not scramble, and does not taranto. The question then becomes whether this opening leaves the Egypt FAC too vulnerable to capture? At any rate, given the substantial benefits a UK1 Factory in Egypt would confer, I have no problem saying to UK: “If you want the factory, you have to walk a narrow path to get there.” To be continued. . .
