@gamerman01 Understood, thanks for your detailed reply! I do see one additional advantage offered to the moving player you did not mention, however: if the defending player has subs and they survive the first attack, they could use the special sub retreat ability to block off the carrier pickup zone(s) and indirectly destroy all attacking fighters. However, if the carrier combat moved to its pickup zone(s) BEFORE the actual combat began, that option would not be available to the defending subs.
