In case your setup page indicates 6 infantry in Russia, you are going with the latest and current setup.
All the adjustments mentioned in 2014’s official FAQ should be included in that new print, then.

Yes they can. Defenseless transports don’t roll dice but are destroyed (see “Defenseless Transports” on page 17 of the rulebook).
Air units can attack sea units. They can attack even submarines in case the air units are supported by an attacking destroyer.

Page 28 of the Rulebook covers this all:
“Loading and Offloading: A transport can load cargo from one or two territories in or adjacent to friendly sea zones that it

up 1 land unit, move 1 sea zone, pick up another land unit, move 1 more sea zone, and finally offload both land units. A
transport can also remain at sea with cargo still aboard. In that case, the cargo remaining aboard must have been loaded in a previous turn, loaded this turn in the Noncombat Move phase, or loaded this turn for an amphibious assault from which the transport retreated.
Loading onto or offloading from a transport counts as a land unit’s entire move; it cannot move before loading or after
offloading. Place the land units alongside the transport in the sea zone. If the transport moves in the Noncombat Move phase, any number of units aboard can offload into a single friendly territory.”

Rulebook, page 20: “Place sea units only in sea zones adjacent to territories containing eligible industrial complexes. New sea units can enter play even in a hostile sea zone. No combat occurs because the Conduct Combat phase is over”

On Germany’s/Italy’s turn the “Sea Units starting in Hostile Sea Zone rules” apply. (page 12)

@RYNO87 Indeed, the fighters move independently from the carrier. All combat movement happens simultaneously. So while the fighters fly the carrier moves. So you have described it correctly.

Personally, I’ m more interested in WW II scenarios, so I don’t know other ‘physical’ WW I-boardgames.
But there is a map called “Great War” covering WW I to be played using the TripleA software.

As my good friend witt says, it is difficult to understand what you are asking, but I thought I would try to clarify by laying it out step by step. When you have read this please let us know whether it is now clear.

It does not make any difference whether those 5 infantry and 1 tank are in attack or defense, so for simplicity I will assume attack. Let’s say 1 tank and 1 infantry in defence:

Attacker rolls

5 inf at 1 or less in attack - they roll 5 dice and lets say that they score 1 hit then 1 tank at 3 or less - roll one die and in this example it rolls a 4 and misses.

Defender takes casualties

he chooses 1 inf as it costs less to replace and because the tank is more likely to kill an attacker the defender’s chosen casualties remain in the game, but are put to one side as designated casualties.

Defender rolls

for all his units including that which has only just been taken as a casualty 1 inf at 2 or less in defence - throws a 2 and so scores a hit 1 tank at 3 or less - throws a 3 and scores a hit.

Attacker takes casualties

the defender scored 2 hits and the attacker elects to lose 2 infantry, because they cost less to replace and the tank is more likely to kill a defender.

End of battle round

Both sides remove their casualties from the game Attacker decides whether to continue or retreat - in this example he decides to continue.

Attacker rolls

3 surviving inf at 1 or less in attack - roll 3 dice and lets say that they all miss then 1 tank at 3 or less - in this example it rolls a 1 and hits.

Defender takes casualties

he only has 1 remaining unit - his tank - and so must choose that as his casualty this remains in the game, but is put to one side as a designated casualty.

Defender rolls

for all his units including that which has only just been taken as a casualty he only has 1 tank left which hits at 3 or less - throws a 1 and scores a hit.

Attacker takes casualties

the defender scored 1 hits and the attacker elects to lose 1 infantry, because it costs less to replace and the tank is more likely to be of value in future combats.

Yes.  It needs to be clear for each roll what unit type each dice represents. Or more accurately what number is required for a hit with each dice, so tanks and attacking fighters might roll together.

A torpedo hitting a WWII sub means you now have two halves of a sub. I was in the Army so I might have this next part wrong. I believe half a sub has something less than a 1-in-6 chance of a successful counter attack. I’m basing this assumption off the fact the crew would be a little smaller and the handling characteristics of each half would be somewhat reduced. Especially the fore section.

A WWII submarine broken into two half-submarines would have promptly translated into two (or more) pieces of flooded, corpse-filled wreckage sitting at the bottom of the ocean.  I’d be astonished if a modern sub could keep operating (or even stay afloat) after something as drastic as breaking in two, let alone a WWII sub.  Though a modern sub might have a better chance to survive a torpedo hit, depending on various factors – provided the warhead wasn’t a nuke, obviously.

That’s what I thought, but I was hoping I was wrong so I could pick up 3 IPCs in one move.
