i’m seeing more and more bid strategies aimed at discouraging a J1…seems like that is the best option for the allies to stand a chance.

The “Yunnan bid” has nothing to do with discouraging J1 DOW but aims on discouraging a J1 Yunnan attack (or inviting a disaster) independent from a Japanese declaration of war.
