G40 Redesign (currently taking suggestions)

The Self Propelled Artillery should be interesting. I have always thought it was a needed unit.
I came up with one for G 40 House rules but that was with Tanks costing 6 bucks.

At any rate, I’m thinking the Reich should benefit the most on the E Front. If the Yanks can get into SFE with Armored Inf, they could as well.

Will be a fun unit to try out :)

I just finished it for the next triplea update. Still have some other stuff to do but these are the images I used from Joe Pants and Veqryn.

Should promote some more Mech Inf buys. Soviets still probably go Mass Tanks as they usually don’t have enough dough to much more than that.

Maybe get one Total Mech buy in. Total Tanks still a better deal than the SPAs.

If you have an AA Gun in theses territories with tokens you can D@2 but not use both AA guns.

These all can be SBRed up to 3 damage each. Lose income for them until repaired
and refineries up to 6 damage. Don’t repair refineries
suffer a -1 movement for ground or naval or planes or nothing.
Have a chart for this.
Also all of these can be convoy raided up to 3 also.
This represents all transporting vessels at sea.
Remember most of these resource tokens are in normal territories too.

Start out slow with this. You don’t want to keep chasing it.

cool stuff but half hour is a bit much for me. Be nice if you could summarize in a paragraph or two :)

I would use these rules:

(1) if the defender sees a key battle coming and can predict that they’ll want an unusual order of loss, they can leave a note, send an e-mail, etc., informing the attacker of their preferred order of loss, and the attacker will then follow that order.

(2) if there is no note, the attacker will provisionally use a standard order of loss.

(3) after seeing the results of the battle, the defender can pay 2 IPCs to the bank per casualty that they want to switch. You didn’t want to lose your bomber after all? Fine, pay 2 IPCs, and you can have your bomber back in exchange for one of your infantry. This should be expensive enough to deter casual abuse but still cheap enough that if you would really be upset about the order of loss, you can fix it without too much drama. Don’t think it’s fair that you should have to pay to set up your order of loss exactly the way you want it? Well, then, you should have foreseen the battle and given orders in advance. Don’t feel like thinking that hard every turn? Well, then, you can always just cough up 2 IPCs. It’s a way of speeding up the game while making sure that nothing unacceptably bad will happen because of order of loss issues.

Oh cool, we’re back! For a few days there I wasn’t able to get the site up.

I like the idea of a round 0 build up, but I think the implementation needs more work.

The first issue I’m anticipating is just sheer amount of time it would take to go around the table piece for piece. Beyond that you also have the issue of players matching each other (out in the open) by choosing to place all their TUV in just a few hot spots, at the expense of everywhere else. And finally, without any limits or caps for individual territories or sea zones you will likely see a ton of front line units, placed just outside the range of any opening attacks.

My suggestion would be to have more structure to the zero round, more rules defining where the units can be placed, or perhaps some kind of initiative role to determine the sequence in which they are placed.

One approach might be to just scale back the number of units or ipcs that are included in this process. So instead of taking all the starting TUV and putting that in a tray, you might just use a portion of the total, or perhaps instead allow players to add some smaller amount of TUV on top of the normal starting totals. Not only would that make things faster, it would also provide some much needed structure to the set up process.

Particularly with sea zones, instead of a race to be the first to occupy the contested ones (that border multiple originally controlled territories), you could restrict where naval units can be added to just those sea zones that already have a ship etc. Same deal with land.

You might make it a secret placement only revealed after everyone has recorded all their placements. Or you could break it down by unit type, first bases then inf then tanks then fighters then ships etc.

For ease of use, the more this zero round looked like a bid the easier it would be to implement. Although in this case it would be like a bid for all sides.

Again I like the idea a lot, I just think it needs more polish.

Have any of you ever modified some of the Sea Zones in the Pacific?  I am thinking about doing the following.  Would like comments and suggestions.

SZ6 - Japan:  Would be divided into two along the central “spine” of Japan.  Convoy Zone and Kamikaze marker would be repeated.  This would allow Japan to more safely mobilize sea units in the Sea of Japan between Korea and Mainland Japan.  This is basically the same divide that exists in the '42 2nd Edition version of A&A.

SZ’s 7 and 16:  Would be split in half with a North-South line.  This would prevent both Japan and US from directly attacking each other via Hawaii.  Instead, it would be necessary to launch (or hit) Midway or Aleutian Islands first.

SZ 30 - Johnson Island:  Would be split with an East-West line in the “lower part”.

**SZ 50 - Fiji:  **  Would be split an East-West line just below the island of Fiji.

Another way to get a distinctive taste between Fg and TcB on offence is to give attacking Fg a preemptive strike @1, like it is in 1942.2 SBR.

Fg A1 preemptive / D2 regular
TcB A1 / D1
StB A1 /D0, but A1 is like a  1 AAA @1 vs up to 1 plane without preemptive, up to 1 StB or plane whichever is less.

So you kept a progressive scale from D0, to D2.
And every unit get a chance in dogfight phase, no bystander, except for StB on defense.
